Zombie Default Access Request Management Group
Hi,
Our SharePoint default control group “Asset Management Admins” is deleted several months ago. However, in the Access Requests Settings, the system still set it as the default owner group. And since that group is deleted and no member exists inside, no one is receiving any access request.
Below image is all the groups of the SP site. As you can see, goup “Asset Management Admins” does not exist.
We did one experiment by creating a new control group having same group name as the deleted one. “Asset Management Admins”. Then we assigned a new developer as its group member. However, new access request does not go to that developer’s mail box, it goes to someone who was a member of the deleted group.
What’s the trouble of this issue?
The field below the default admin group only allows filling one email address to receive access request. This causes trouble when that person is out-of-office, and add extra SP maintenance workload.
How to change the default access management group?
or how to thoroughly delete the zombie “Asset Management Admin” group?
Any advice/ workaround is welcome!
Warm Regards,
Xuan

United States-International Keyboard
Hi,
I just moved from Windows 10 to 11. In W10 I used the US-International keyboard to enter characters like “a umlaut”. It was easy to do by typing a ” character and then the character itself. To type the ” character you just had to wait a bit. I used the keyboard to type in Finnish language, which uses “a umlaut”, and “o umlaut” characters (lower and upper case).
W11 does not seem to have a US-International language or keyboard. There is a MS note about adding the keyboard to W11, but it just talks about various features you can use to change your chosen language, nothing is mentioned about keyboards.
In another note I learned that I can enter an “a umlaut” by entering ALT-132 (the numeric keyboard numbers), but that is pretty cumbersome. So I tried the MS PowerToys Keyboard Manager app to set up a Remap Shortcut. But it seems that I can not enter the ALT-132 code to be sent, the app can only do a plain text, with no ALT key pressed, or to do only one character while ALT key is pressed.
So without going to some third party app, is there a solution in W11 for my problem? My alternative is to find some third party app that allows the mapping I need, but I would prefer to stay within the MS world.

Cloned SSD will not boot computer
Although a NVMe SSD is much faster than a SATA SSD, you only see the difference on the benchmark test. On old computers you can’t boot directly to the PCIe card with the NVMe SSD as there is no option on BIOS to do so. The EFI partition must be on a SATA drive and then transfer the boot sequence to the PCIe card。

Black screen upon login after KB5035853 install
Two days ago I did the March 2024 updates, including KB5035853, at the end of the day, with the computer completing a restart after installation.
The next morning I got the computer’s login screen, but upon entering the correct login credentials, the screen went black. I flailed away on some keys, and something I did caused a restart, again bringing me to the login screen – with everything looking normal – but then again, logging in made the screen go black.
After another restart, I logged into a seldom-used other account I have on the computer (meant to be used if it’s ever at a repair shop). That login took a while (I don’t think it’s ever been logged into since I went from Win10 to Win11 last year), but then I had a normal-looking desktop and functionality. I logged off of that, then logged back into my own account, and everything was normal again.
So that’s good, but what happened in the first place to cause the login to send me to a black screen? And why would logging into a different account on the computer fix the problem? And if I didn’t have that other account, what would I have done to fix the problem?

Issues with Windows 11 Pro Documents Folder Icon
I have a fresh installation of Windows 11 Pro, about a couple weeks old or so. The Documents folder was stubbornly stuck on OneDrive. I followed a YouTube video that showed how to move it successfully. Afterwards I removed OneDrive from startup but didn’t remove it altogether.
I won’t go into the details of my attempted fix. But the lingering side effect is the local Documents folder lacks an icon and will NOT even browse for an icon. I even have an extracted icon file, from imageres.dll, for the Documents folder. But the folder properties box on the Customize tab does not have the usual buttons (Choose File & Restore Default) to prompt for an icon change. I had those buttons yesterday, which didn’t work. But after tampering with the registry, even those buttons are gone.
The easiest option is to simply reinstall the OS from scratch. But then I’d lose a couple weeks of software installs and configurations. The other option is to live with it.
You can see the attached screenshots for more details. The Documents folder is not grouped to the other folders such as Downloads.
Hopefully someone can help?

After serval years of complaining the History Sidebar still DOES NOT highlight.
Can someone please explain to me why the History Sidebar DOES NOT keep the selected history item selected after you move your mouse away from it after clicking it! (THIS A IS NORMALLY CALLED A SELECTED STATE).
The OLD, OLD, OLD INterener Explorer could do the above mentioned. Yet, after several years of complaining (some using curse words) about EDGE not being able to KEEP THE SELECT HISTORY SIDEBAR ITEM HIGHLIGHTED after you selected it then move yoiu mouse away, no one can tell why the developer(s) cannot had a selected state to a clicked history sidebar item TO SAY SELECTED until you select another one.
WHY you may ask: Having dozens of history item that you want to view again (usually items and prices for Amazon for me), you have NO WAY OF KNOWING WHERE THE HELL YOU LEFT OFF once you selcted a sidebar history item, move your mouse and then go back to select the next item WHERE YOU LEFT OFF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dynamics 365 and Power Platform User Group Malta July Meetup
This is a great learning and networking opportunity, whether you are in Dynamics 365 CE, Finance and Operations, Business Central/NAV, or Microsoft Power Platform or an enthusiast of any of these platforms.
In this session will showcase Simple to Advanced strategies to make your Power Automate flows run lightning-fast. If you’re not careful, Power Automate can run slow leading to time-outs and impatient users. We’ll go over proven and saleable techniques that will be 10x the speed of your flows. Bonus! They’ll use much LESS code to accomplish the same thing. Speed and Tidiness together: Win-win.
We’ll use Dataverse, SharePoint, and Excel in the demos to make sure it applies to everyone’s work environment. We’ll also explore common pitfalls in Power Automate that lead to unexpected performance hiccups.

Computing Partial derivates of anonymous functions comprised of sum of standard functions
Hi there,
I am implementing a conjugate gradient based optimisation algorithm, and to achieve this i need to calculate the grad of the input function. I currently pass in an anonymous function, which is comprised as the sum of other anonymous functions, of which those are comprised of standard matlab functions. Here is how the objective function is defined
% one constraint for example – all 6 are similar form
c2 = @(x) mat.minSF_yield – mat.yield …
/ axial_stress(mat.F, mat.E, x(1), x(2));
transf_obj = @(x) obj(x) – r * (1 / (c1(x) + c2(x) + c3(x) + c4(x) + c5(x) + c6(x)));
the partial derivative function calculates the partial derivative anon functions and adds them into a cell. This allows the partials to be calculated before the optimisation loop saving computation time
function [grad_cell] = partials(func, x)
% Get dimensionality of inputs
n = numel(x);
% Convert the anonymous function to a symbolic expression
syms a [1 n]
funcSym = func(a);
% Initialize the array to hold partial derivative functions
grad_vect = zeros(1, n);
grad_cell = cell(1,n);
% Compute partial derivatives
for i = 1:n
% Compute symbolic partial derivative with respect to the i-th variable
partialDerivSym = diff(funcSym, a(i));
% Convert symbolic partial derivative back to an anon function
grad = matlabFunction(partialDerivSym, ‘Vars’, {a});
% Add anon function to cell
grad_cell{i} = grad;
end
end
To evalute the gradient at a specific point the following function is used
function [nabla] = compute_grad(cell, x)
nabla = zeros(1,numel(x))
for i =1:numel(x)
nabla(i) = cell{i}(x);
end
end
When evaluting any partial, for some values such as x = [14,3] something within the feasable domain, an empty array is returned. And for values such as x=[7.9,7], a value close to the results i was getting from using fmincon an error of the following is produced.
Error using diff
Difference order N must be a positive integer scalar.
Error in sym/matlabFunction>@(in1)(in1(:,1).*pi.*(3.0./2.5e+…
My current theory is that the conversion to and from symbolic variables to compute the derivative is not being achieved successfuly given the combination of anon functions and locally defined functions. I have tested the partials function with simple functions directly defined and it appears to work. This program is split across 3 files, the first which defines variables and calls the conj-grad m-file. This file then calls the partials.m file which is just the partials function.

How to modify Surface Hub 2S Teams display name?
Hi everyone,
We’ve been asked to change the name that is displayed on the “quarter” teams windows that appears on Surface Hub 2S with Windows 10.
As you can see in this image we have the name MTR displayed on our Surface Hub 2S.
We’ve tried changing every setting we could find on the Hub, on the M365 Admin Center and through PowerShell commands but we didn’t manage to change it.
The only solution seems to reset the device with an USB drive altough it’s not optimal as it can take many hours to reset and update.
Can you help us?
Thank you in advance
Andrea

Outlook Desk Top 2021 Overdoing Security?
Win 11, Outlook 2021 Desk Top…latest versions.
Been using this for a few years. Outlook just started giving me the attached message when clicking on ANY link in ANY email message. How do I stop this?
When searching I find Microsoft instructions to fix this on 365 Outlook which do not work on my version.
Thanks much

Seeking Insights on Security Considerations for Premium APK Files Body:
Hello Microsoft Tech Community,
I hope this message finds you well. I am currently researching security considerations related to premium APK files, particularly focusing on applications like Spotify Premium APK.
I would appreciate insights from the community on best practices for assessing the security risks associated with downloading and using premium APK files. Specifically, I’m interested in understanding how to identify potential malware, protect against vulnerabilities, and ensure safe usage within a Windows environment.
Any recommendations on tools, strategies, or industry standards for evaluating APK file integrity and security would be invaluable.
Thank you all for your expertise and assistance!

Index in position 2 exceeds array bounds (must not exceed 175).
Hello,
I am analysing EEG data using a code that was provided to me. This bit of code was working well a year ago, and I am using it now to add new datasets.I don’t understand what has changed that make it throw an error now.
The script below is used to average, plot and display the 93 EEG electrodes accross all trials for all participants. I get the following error:
Index in position 2 exceeds array bounds (must not exceed 175).
Error in butterfly_graph (line 8)
data_STD(:,:,i) = DATA{1,i}.avg(:, 1:350);
DATA is stored in a file called DataForCluster_allparticipants.mat. I don’t understand what exactly is the index in position 2 that exceeds array bounds. I apologise if the answer is very obvious.
my scripts can be found here: https://we.tl/t-0ozTcZFgex
DataForCluster_allparticipants.mat that is the file where the DATA variable is stored
The script forLucie_loadDataForCluster.mat is the script generating the DATA file
The script Butterfly_graph is the script in which I have a problem
load(‘DataForCluster_allparticipants.mat’)
cd(‘/Users/dan/Documents/LucieEEG/Analysis/Sorted’) %change this
%d(1,:) is standard
%d(2,:) is deviant
% d(3,:) is MMN

data_STD(:,:,i) = DATA{1,i}.avg(:, 1:350);
data_DEV(:,:,i) = DATA{2,i}.avg(:, 1:350);
data_MMN(:,:,i) = DATA{3,i}.avg(:, 1:350);

merge two stl (or combination of nodes and mesh of two separate 3D geometries) into one geometry
I have two 3D geometries (‘sol_1.stl’ and ‘sol_2.stl’) and their corresponding nodes and faces.
I would like to combine the two STL geometries into a single geometry, or merge the nodes and faces of the two geometries into one.
sol_1.st + sol_2.st -> sol_fin.stl
nodes_sol_1 + nodes_sol_2 -> nodes_sol_fin (simple)
