When a tag is defined for an app designer slider, the value-changing-function for that slider is not triggered.
I’m using Version R2024a. When I create a slider component in App Designer and define a ValueChangingFcn for it, it works fine … as long as "Tag" (in the "Identifiers" section of the slider) has not been defined. That is, the ValueChangingFcn callback is called as I drag the slider. However, if I define Tag (e.g. ‘abc’ without the quotes), then the ValueChangingFcn is no longer called when I drag the slider.
I should mention that this appears to occur only with the slider. With a Numeric Edit Field, the presence of a tag has no adverse effect on the call to its callback.
Does anyone know a workaround?I’m using Version R2024a. Solving Second-Order BVP with unknown Constants using fsolve
I am trying to solve the following problem numerically using Matlab’s fsolve function. The problem is specified by:
with the boundary conditions that
, ,
The unknowns in the problem are the height profile , the angle , and the unknown constant . The problem is in fact well posed because we have the two "extra" boundary conditions are required for us to solve for the two unknown constants . I devised the following numerical scheme:
[Eq. **]
where and the length of the domain is . The number of points used to discretize space is . The above scheme is to be applied at . At , we have to be mindful of the boundary conditions. I used the contact angle BCs to come up with equations for the "ghost points", or points just outside the domain. These are given by:
, and
Utilizing these ghost point equations and the fact that , the equations for are given by:
,
My idea is to now solve Eq. [**] for with the four equations immediately above. This gives a total of equations for the unknowns which are: . To implement this in Matlab, I wanted to use an iterative method which calls fsolve at each iteration. I, however, got a bit confused as to the best way of defining these equations as function handles to then use in the fsolve command. Below is my definition of the function that should define the equations:
function F = finDiffScheme(hold,N) % here h is the value of h at the previous iteration level
xf = 6.17415;
L = 2*xf; dx=L/N; x=-xf:dx:xf;
theta = 39*(pi/180);
S = 5; ki=.37; alpha1 = 2.69;
F{1} = @(y) 2*y(1) – 2*dx*tan(theta-y(N+1))-dx^2*S+dx^2*y(N);
F{2} = @(y) y(2)-(2+dx^2)*y(1)-dx^2*S*exp(-2*ki*((x(2)+xf)+alpha1*hold(1)))+dx^2*y(N);
for i = 2:N-2
F{i+1} = @(y) y(i+1)-(2+dx^2)*y(i)+y(i-1)-dx^2*S*exp(-2*ki*((x(i+1)+xf)+alpha1*hold(i)))+dx^2*y(N);
end
F{N} = @(y) -(2+dx^2)*y(N-1)+y(N-2)-dx^2*S*exp(-2*ki*((x(N)+xf)+alpha1*hold(N-1)))+dx^2*y(N);
F{N+1} = @(y) 2*y(N-1) – 2*dx*tan(theta+y(N+1))-dx^2*S*exp(-4*ki*xf)+dx^2*y(N);
end
If I run this code, then the output is a cell array called F which is size 1 x N+1. My concern here is that if I look at F, it seems that the numerical values of the known parameters S, ki, alpha1, dx, xf are all ignored. This is very confusing to me since F should only be a function of y not also those parameters. Is there a reason for this? For reference, I call this function in the script below:
clear; clc;
% Set parameters first: xf, theta
xf = 6.17415;
theta = 39*(pi/180);
h0 = 0;
hN = 0;
iters = 3;
N=256; L=2*xf; dx = L/N; x=-xf:dx:xf;
uold = zeros(1,N+3); % First n-1 elements are h_1, …, h_{n-1}; Last 2 elements are p and theta_d
hold1 = (1 + (sinh(x-xf)-sinh(x+xf))/sinh(2*xf))*.809827;
uold(1,1:N+1) = hold1;
uold(1,N+2:N+3) = [.809827,0];
plot(x,hold1)
hold on
F = finDiffScheme(hold1,N);
F2 = @(z) cellfun(@(y) y(z), F)
for j=1:iters
u = fsolve(F2, uold)
plot(x,u(1,1:N+1))
disp(u(1,N+2:N+3))
uold = u;
end
I am a bit concerned that the fsolve command is somehow also solving for these parameters. What exactly am I doing wrong here?

Distributed content moving or disappearing
Hello, we have several teachers who are distributing content to students and some of the class will have issues. This is happening across the district with various teachers. The teachers make the document part of the background, but when students click on it, it disappears or moves the cursor to the far bottom of the page, etc. This is happening enough where some teachers are using other resources other than Class Notebook. Anyone else seen this? I thought maybe an extension on the student Chromebooks or network connectivity during the sync? Any other ideas?

VM Spanning or Storage Pool
Hello,
When creating VMs are you combining disks using Disk Management Spanning or Server Manager Storage Pools?
Data usage, random fileserver data
Excluded boot OS, this is a basic separate disk.
I’m reading that dynamic disk is obsolete and storage pools should be used. But is this relevant for VMs when storage is managed via hardware RAID e.g. SAN, Fibre attached etc
Thank you,
Leo.

Limiting admins to specific domains and licenses quantities
Hi There,
I have a tenant with only one domain at the moment which is of the main organization. I’m planning three more domains and each of these additional domains belong to a company who are subsidiaries of the main company. I am aware adding domains won’t be an issue but however my question is as below;
Can I create custom admins with each of them tied/limited managing, creating and updating users specific to the given domain(s) including the limiting of licenses (e.g.: admin B can only create up to 50 users under domain B).
So that, as a main admin, I can oversee and control the domains, licenses and users.

Sharepoint site permissions issues – Visitors group users not granted access
Hey there,
One of our colleague was wrongly given the “owner” role for a SP site. That person went to the advanced permissions settings panel and randomly deleted the site default “Visitors” group.
Then of course every persons depending on that permissions level to visite the site received a “Denied access” error when trying to reach the site.
What we saw was
no more “visitors” group in the advanced permissions settings panel BUT;
“visitors” group still appearing in the basic consol on the website (gear icon>site permissions) and enclosing users;
when checking access to specific pages or content “visitors” group was missing.
We then recreated a new “Visitors” group with “read only” classic permissions. Yet same issue “Denied access” and same observations made (see bullets list above).
We did it again creating a very similar group called “Read-only”. After several trials. we asked permissions to access the page directly from the error page “Denied access”. User was then able to access the site.
From there we checked the permissions status for that user, from that check we can see that this user is depending on the “Visitors” and “Read-only” groups…
Yet we can’t see that user withing these groups… Of course if we deleted the user from all users and add it in one of these two groups, it can’t access the site.
We read a lot on permissions lately but can’t find anyone else experiencing this.
Additional info:
This site is part of a hub and is the only one affected
All sites are configured the same way
The only settings that changes was that deleted default “visitors” group on that specific website. (so it has to come from that)
We won’t be asking people to ask for permissions from the “Denied access” error page since it would not solve the original issue and we set up groups within Active Directory to easily manage users and their permissions across MS apps.
Should anyone have a solution ;)…
Cheers

Azure powershell Set-AzStorageLocalUser – how to use existing ssh key in azure?
We have ssh keys already created in Azure. When the local user is created, existing ssh key created in azure should be assigned to the user. This can be easily done through Azure portal.

Acronyms in company names
Hi all,
I’m running into an issue creating an Microsoft Partner account that I’m wondering if anyone can assist with.
My company is called Mega HR, Inc when I try to register the company information I’m told “The company name isn’t valid. Enter a valid legal company name. Learn More”
The learn more explains that they restrict acroynms but it’s intended for things like “Inc”, “LTD”, not HR.
I’ve tried removing Inc from my name as well but have determined it is related to “HR” in the name since if I remove it, it doesn’t give me the error.
Unfortunately though, it’s asking for the legal name of the business.
Anyone else run into this? Is there somewhere / someone I can reach out to to assist?

Add a Screenshot to Copilot Web not possible
Adding a Screenshot to Copilot Web Chat is not possible anymore. Someone knows about is?
It is not possible as attachment and not possible in the chat. The fiel typ is not supported.
Workaround for me it to paste the screenshot in a word file and save it as PDF and upload that. But thats not so smart….And as far as i know also paste screenshots in Viva Engage is not possible anymore. Maybe it has a context

Error saving additional external presenter to Town Hall
I have a Town Hall with 12 external presenters. I was able to save it. Then I try to add another external presenter, or an attendee and it gives me the unhelpful message “Unable to save changes. Let’s try again.” I get this on 2 different computers for the same Town Hall.
Anyone know of a workaround or fix?

See what’s possible with Copilot in Excel (part 8)
Hi everyone, over the last few weeks we have had a series of posts to show you some of the things that are possible to do with Copilot in Excel.
This week I have a task that I need to get done quickly. I need to take some meeting attendance data that I have from our recent business partner meetings and do some analysis on it. Before I can do the analysis, I need to clean up the data a bit.
To start, I see that the Join and Leave Time columns aren’t actual dates, they are just entered as text. I ask Copilot:
add a calculated column formula that converts the Join Time column to a date/time value
Looking at B2:E137, here’s 1 formula column to review and insert in Column F:
Converts the join time of each attendee into a numerical value by extracting the date and time components from the “Join Time” column. This helps in performing time-based calculations and comparisons within the table.
=DATEVALUE(LEFT([@[Join Time]],FIND(“,”,[@[Join Time]])-1))+TIMEVALUE(MID([@[Join Time]],FIND(“,”,[@[Join Time]])+2,LEN([@[Join Time]])))
I insert that formula, which works and so I ask it to repeat the same for the Leave time column:
Now use the same type of formula to add a column for Leave time
Looking at B2:F137, here’s 1 formula column to review and insert in Column G:
Converts the leave time of each attendee into a numerical date-time value, making it easier to perform time-based calculations and comparisons.
=DATEVALUE(LEFT([@[Leave Time]],FIND(“,”,[@[Leave Time]])-1))+TIMEVALUE(MID([@[Leave Time]],FIND(“,”,[@[Leave Time]])+2,LEN([@[Leave Time]])))
After adding the 2 new columns, my table looks like this:
I rename the columns and hide the original join and leave time columns and the table now looks like this:
Next, I want to replace the attendee IDs with attendee names. In the same workbook, I also have this table of Attendee IDs and Names:
I ask Copilot:
Insert a Name column to the left of Attendee ID by looking up the name in the other table in this sheet
Looking at B2:G137, here’s 1 formula column to review and insert in Column C:
Retrieves the name of each meeting attendee by matching their ID with the corresponding name in the partner meetings table (Table219).
=XLOOKUP([@[Attendee ID]],Table219[ID],Table219[Name])
Copilot suggest a XLOOKUP formula that after inserted makes my table look like this:
Finally, I want to add a column that calculates the duration that each attendee participated in each meeting using the Join and Leave times. I ask Copilot:
Add a column that shows the duration using the join and leave time
Looking at B2:H137, here’s 1 formula column to review and insert in Column I:
Calculates the duration of each attendee’s participation in a meeting by subtracting their join time from their leave time.
=[@[Leave Time]]-[@[Join Time]]
After inserting the suggested formula, my table looks like this, all ready for analysis:
Stay tuned,
