Cannot boot into Windows 11 to reset
When my system was running Windows 10 in the Dev Channel of the Insider Program I was informed that Windows 11 would be pushed to it through Windows Update, even though the machine did not officially meet the requirements for Windows 11, and that this represented thanks for participating in the Dev Channel. I was also told that this upgrade would be temporary and that at some point I would either be prompted to reinstall Windows 10 or else a reinstall of Windows 10 would be pushed to the machine [I can’t remember which].
The system was indeed moved to Windows 11, but the later prompt to reinstall [or pushed reinstallation of) Windows 10 never came, and I was actually running Windows 11 21H without problems until very recently, when I needed to reset it from the recovery options menu at boot. That reset worked as expected. But now, for unrelated reasons, I need to reset Windows again, but I cannot get it even to boot to the recovery options menu, much less into Windows 11 itself. I do see the Windows logo briefly and then a spinner and an arrow, also briefly, and then the screen just alternates between dull dark blue and black. Depressing F8 at the appropriate time during boot to access the recovery options menu [which action the system has been configured to accept) doesn’t work, although that’s what I used when I reset Windoes just a week or so ago. Turning off the machine with the power button, then starting it and then allowing it to proceed to just pass POST, and then restarting it again a couple of times in quick succession doesn’t work either. Unless there is some other way to access the recovery options menu that I haven’t been able to discover, it looks as though I am going to need to use a USB recovery drive, and unfortunately the one that I made is not accessible, so I’m going to have to create one anew. The problem is that this build of Windows 11 that I have, which I believe is the last build of 21H, doesn’t seem to be available for download, and I’m afraid that if I attempt to install what is available that the installation will be aborted because the system is not officially ready for Windows 11, even though it was running Windows 11 and that at the Insiders Program option.
The BIOS is in legacy mode. Attempts to move to UEFI have been unsuccessful.
Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to proceed, ideally to the recovery options menu at boot, but if not that, then how to proceed with reinstalling Windows 11 in a way that will not abort?
