MacBook Air M1, Mac OS uptodate, MS Word uptodate….

I wrote my Word document, using styles Normal, Heading1,2 and 3.  I now want to customize how my document looks so I changed the style formats in my template file.  Saved it.  Opened the document file, attached the template file, nothing happened as I wanted and expected.   HELP!!!!!!

I modified a template file.  Then I opened the document I wm working on and tried tom impose thetemplayte stauyules n the document.  Diudn;t work.  Please help.
