Google Duo will be upgraded to Google Meet
Review your administrative settings before the Google Duo app is upgraded later this year.
Dear EDU Administrator,
We are contacting you because:
- Your institution currently has Google Meet services ON, or
- Users within your institution are currently using the Duo app with their Workspace for Education account.
We’d like to let you know that we will upgrade the Google Duo app to include all Google Meet features. Later this year, we’ll change the name of the Google Duo app to Google Meet. This will allow users to schedule video meetings and use video calling from Meet.
You will receive another email notification before this change.
What does this mean for my institution?
Google Meet
Your users will still be able to host meetings in the Meet app and on the web as long as the Meet services is ON in the Admin console.
Google Duo
Duo is currently restricted for users under 18. After the upgrade from Google Duo to Google Meet, the video calling features will remain restricted for these users. As the administrator, you can disable access to Duo for users over 18 by turning OFF the Additional Google services control. These users will no longer be able to use Duo features while signed in with their Workspace for Education account.
Note: Turning OFF the Additional Google Services control turns OFF all the apps that fall under this category without individual ON/OFF switches. See Manage access to services that aren’t controlled individually for additional information.
The current number of users with Duo access within your organization is 3.
What do I need to do?
No action is required. This upgrade is automatic, and we’ll provide at least a 30-day notice before it takes place. However, we suggest reviewing how your administrative settings may impact your users after the upgrade, as described in the previous section.

The Google Workspace Team | Jun 10, 2022, 12:55 AM | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |

Keep reading to find resources about the new Google Workspace for Education pooled storage policy management tools and your domain’s effective date for the new pooled storage policy implementation.
Dear Administrator,
We are writing to inform you that as we announced last year, the Google Workspace for Education pooled storage policy update is coming soon. To be better prepared for this change you need to:
- Confirm your institution’s available storage.
- Validate the date for the pooled storage policy implementation for your domain.
- Consult resources about the new storage management tools.
What does this mean for my organization?
The new Google Workspace for Education pooled storage model offers a baseline of 100TB of pooled storage shared across all your users while providing additional storage to:
- Institutions with more than 20,000 active users* will automatically receive additional baseline storage of 5GB per user for each user over 20,000.
*Active users which can be viewed in the admin console, will be counted as the peak number of 30 day unique logins over the past 180 days. This count will automatically update twice per year and adjust the total storage amount accordingly. - Customers with the following Google Workspace for Education editions:
- Google Workspace for Education Plus: An additional 20 GB will be added to the shared pool per license. Customers continuing on legacy G Suite Enterprise for Education licenses will also have 100 GB added to their shared pool per paid employee license.
- Teaching and Learning Upgrade: An additional 100 GB will be added to the shared pool per license.
Important: Based on the policy outlined above, the storage available for telkomuniversity.ac.id is 172 TB. The pooled storage policy for telkomuniversity.ac.id will go into effect Jan-23.
We’ve launched new storage management tools to give admins additional visibility, control, and insights into storage usage across your organization. We recommend you use these new tools regularly to see how much storage is being used across your organization and view how close your organization is to reaching its storage limit. With these new storage management tools you’ll be able to track:
- The storage usage summary for your entire organization.
- Storage used by specific products like Drive or Gmail.
- Top users of storage in your organization.
- Shared drives with the most storage used in your organization.
- Storage limit warnings for the domain.
- Access detailed reports on storage usage.
- Apply storage limits for individual users by organizational unit (OU) or group.
- Delete shared drives from the admin console.
Note: At launch, only Super admins will have access to the storage management tools as described in Pre-built administrator roles. Over the next few months, we’ll expand for access to Delegated, User management admin, and Reseller admins.
What do I need to do?
Use the storage management tools to:
- Analyze your institution’s storage usage.
- Enforce and manage limits on individual users.
- Review Shared Drive usage and adjust Shared Drive policies.
- If you are near or over your storage limit, learn how to free up storage or get more storage.
- Prepare your users for any individual limits you may apply.

New Admin Controls for Google Arts & Culture, Google Translate, Google News, and Voice Match & Face Match for Google Assistant
As an administrator, you can control who uses which Google services from their account.
As a reminder, where applicable, parental consent is required (per the Google Workspace for Education Terms of Service) for students under 18 years of age to turn ON an Additional Service in Google Workspace for Education. If you do not have parental consent for users under the age of 18, these services should be turned off.
What does this mean for my organization?
In the coming weeks, you will be able to turn the following services on or off for users:
- Google Arts & Culture
- Google Translate
- Google News
- Voice Match and Face Match subsetting (when Search and Assistant is enabled)
If you previously had “Access to additional services without individual control for users” turned On for specific users, then new service controls for Google Arts & Culture, Google News and Google Translate will be set to On for the same users.
If you previously had Search and Assistant turned On for specific users, the Voice Match and Face Match sub-setting will be set to On to ensure users continue to have the existing Google Assistant experience.
You can always change these settings at any time.
As administrator, you will be able to turn on or off the features for: Google Arts & Culture, Google Translate, and Google News, for Organization Units (OU’s), groups, or for your entire institution.
What do I need to know?
Google Arts & Culture
Users who have Google Arts & Culture turned on will be able to:
- Access the Google Arts & Culture site,
- Make their own Arts & Culture galleries, and
- Track their achievements on their site.
Users whose service is off can still access the site without using information from their account or saving information to it, similar to the experience for a user signed out of their account.
Google Translate
Users who have Google Translate turned on can translate text, documents, images, and more across hundreds of languages on Android/iOS mobile apps or the web.
For users whose service is off:
- They will be unable to access Google Translate via the website.
- While the Android and iOS mobile apps will continue to work when the service is off, saved translations will be unavailable, similar to a signed out experience.
Google News
Users who have Google News turned on will be able to log into the Google News app on an Android or iOS device as well as on the web at news.google.com.
Users whose service is off can still access Google News when not signed into their Google Workspace account.
Voice Match and Face Match in Search and Assistant
Google Assistant uses Voice Match and Face Match to tell an enrolled user apart from others, and personalize the user’s Assistant experience and results.
If you had Search and Assistant turned On for your users, the Voice Match and Face Match control will be set to On to ensure users continue to have the existing experience. You can always turn this Off for users at any time.
What do I need to do?
See the corresponding help center articles to turn on or off:
If you wish to keep these services On, there is no additional action required.
If you wish to change access to these services, you can turn on or off each of these services using the information above.
If you previously had “Access to additional services without individual” control for users” turned On, then new service controls for Google Arts & Culture, Google News and Google Translate will be set to On for the same users.
If you previously had access Search and Assistant turned On for users, the new Voice Match and Face Match control will be set to On for those users to ensure users continue to have the existing experience.
