Exchange Hybrid Migration underway, but clients experience Outlook authentication loop
Hi,
This is a fairly long story but hoping someone can help troubleshoot what might be going wrong.
Essentially we have a single AD domain, 2 x Exchange 2013 servers in a DAG and everything was running OK. One peculiar feature is that although this AD/Exchange is a single domain, we are trying to split some users out into separate M365 tenancies (and eventually separate AD domains, etc..). As a result, we run multiple EntraID Connect servers synchronizing specific OU’s to the various tenants.
We were advised that in order to split a single AD/Exchange into multiple M365 tenants, we would require an Exchange 2019 server licensed as a Hybrid server for the Hybrid Configuration Wizard to run against. Exchange 2013 on its own could not accomplish this single to multiple configuration.
That was completed, and indeed we have the capability to migrate mailboxes from on-prem to any of the desired 365 tenancies (there are a lot of intricacies to it, but it can work).
The problem we have is that some Outlook users began experiencing Outlook credential prompts over and over again. This seems to have started around the same time as the Exchange 2019 Hybrid server was introduced to the network.
Looking at the connection status on Outlook, we can see that some connections are now going via the new Exchange server – which being licensed for Hybrid only, does not contain any mailboxes or etc.
Initially, I suspected this might be some sort of TLS compatibility issue between the new server and the old servers, and when the new server tries to proxy a user request to an old mailbox server, something is going wrong. I assumed this after seeing a lot of SCHANNEL errors in the event log of the new server. But these do not match up with Outlook authentication failures. At lot of troubleshooting at this point has been focused on enabling the older TLS versions for the system and for .NET on the 2019 Exchange server, but it does not seem to have improved things.
In any case, this is causing major headaches for some users. After some time, the credential prompts will generally stop and the users can work, but often this can take 20+ minutes to settle down.
At this point, would appreciate any advice on where to look for more detailed logging of what is going on with clients when this happens or anything else you might be able to recommend.
Thanks in advance

Open Copilot Email Links in Desktop Outlook Instead of Outlook for Web
One of my common Copilot for M365 use cases (specifically in Copilot Chat) is to ask for summaries of recent email messages. The links provided always open in Outlook on the web, though, instead of in the desktop Outlook application.
We’re considering disabling Outlook on the web for our users, though, so we need to ensure that those links will actually open in the desktop app. Is there a way to force that behavior?

Stop/Delete Timer Issues While Closing GUI
Hi,
I use a timer to update an axes in a GUI. I want to handle the case in which the user closes the window while the timer is still running, i.e., the axes still beeing updated.
The Problem:
However, every so often the execution time of the TimerFcn is longer than the timers period (depending on the pc’s performance). This can cause an error when closing the GUI while the timer is still running.
Error while evaluating TimerFcn for timer ‘timer-1’
Bad handle
FYI, I use
T = timerfind;
if ~isempty(T)
stop(T)
delete(T)
end
in the figure’s delete function. Apparently, the TimerFcn is still being called after the execution of the figure’s delete function. Hence, within my TimerFcn an error occurs during a call to
cla(myaxes),
for cla expects a valid figure handle (though the GUI’s figure has just been deleted).
All in all, it seems that the execution time being larger than the timer period is causing this. Of course I could reduce the timer period, but this is not desirable. I figured out a workaround by using a try-catch phrase within the TimerFcn, however it’s not a proper solution.
Question:
Is there any way to force the TimerFcn to stop and somehow flush its executin queue/event buffer, regardless of its current state? Any thoughts about solving this issue are very welcome!
Thank you in advance!

Fundraising and Engagement solution retiring on December 31, 2026
Sharing this for those who haven’t seen the announcement (the following was emailed to existing users of the Fundraising and Engagement solution):
Fundraising and Engagement will be retired
Microsoft remains committed to providing affordable and relevant technology and skilling to nonprofit organizations worldwide. As we continue to innovate and enhance our technology offerings, we are making strategic updates to our suite of solutions. Notably, the Fundraising and Engagement solution will be retired, with technical support concluding at 11:59 PM PT (US) on December 31, 2026.
As of July 15, 2024, Microsoft will continue providing necessary security updates, but will not make additional enhancements to Fundraising and Engagement.
Between July 15, 2024, and December 31, 2026, you can continue to use Fundraising and Engagement, apply security updates as they are made available from Microsoft, and receive technical support from Microsoft. After December 31, 2026, Microsoft will no longer implement security updates for Fundraising and Engagement, and there will be no further technical support for the solution.
What action should your organization take?
We want to ensure that all customers have a successful path forward on the Microsoft Cloud for their organizational fundraising needs.
Customers currently using Fundraising and Engagement should work with their Microsoft Partner to identify the future configuration of Dynamics 365 Sales needed to meet their specific needs. If your organization does not have a Microsoft Partner, you can find a partner with knowledge of the Fundraising and Engagement solution at Microsoft.com/nonprofits.
Alternatively, customers can explore Microsoft partner solutions for donor management and fundraising built on Dynamics 365 Sales that have been specifically designed for customers transitioning from Fundraising and Engagement, including solutions from Barhead, mhance, and SylogistMission CRM. More solutions will be coming soon in the Partner solutions area of Solution Center.
If you have questions about these changes, please contact your Microsoft account team, your Microsoft Partner, or use this form to contact us.
Sincerely,
Microsoft Tech for Social Impact Team

What should I do if Quick.Books pay..roll tax table update is stuck?
Hi all, I’m having trouble updating the Quick.Books Pay.roll Tax Table. The update keeps failing and I can’t process pay.roll without it. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any advice on how to resolve it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Parse csv with complex numbers written by Python numpy
I am not actually sure which Python features use this format (I think both numpy and pandas use it), or perhaps this is a part of a larger standard, but basically I have csvs with text that looks like
(-0.0053973628685668375-0.004476730131734169j),(0.005108157082444198-0.005597795916657765j),,,,,,,-298.0,-298.0,37293,-0.7617709422297042,0.7202575393833991,(0.001506298444580933-0.0035885955125266656j)
and I want to parse into a numeric array.
The real-valued scalar entries are easy (well I can do a str2double and it’s not super fast but it’s acceptable). The blanks are also not too bad because after a simple textscan with a comma delimeter I can find emptys and set to a desired value. But what the heck do I do with these rediculous complex number strings?
There’s loopy solutions with regexp or finding the real and imag components but they are too slow when dealing with hundreds of thousands of entries. I could also do things like find entries containing a "j" and process them separately, but is there something better?I am not actually sure which Python features use this format (I think both numpy and pandas use it), or perhaps this is a part of a larger standard, but basically I have csvs with text that looks like

Help with Using PowerShell to split a file by a particular string and saving as specific name
Good afternoon, I hope someone can assist.
I need assistance being able to split a file into multiple files with a specific name.
So I use get-content to read the file
16/07/2024 MessageA – 1
***Line 1
***Line 2
*End of Message
16/07/2024 MessageB – 2
***Line 1
***Line 2
*End of Message
16/07/2024 MessageC – 3
***Line 1
***Line 2
*End of Message
As you can see there are three messages in the object when i use get-content. I wish to split this file into (which in this case would be three messages) once the string *End of Message* is seen. Also giving the name of each file to be the first line in each of the files.
filename – MessageA.txt
16/07/2024 MessageA – 1
***Line 1

*End of Message
filename – MessageB.txt
