Text Files Taking a Long Time to Open
I’ve been experiencing a frustrating issue with text file opening speed in Windows 11. Normally, text files open quickly, but there’s a noticeable delay even with small text files in Windows 11. I suspect the new UWP Notepad app is the cause of this slowdown. Have you also encountered this problem?

Issue with Text/Font: Disordered and Difficult to Read
Hello everyone,
I recently bought a new laptop primarily for everyday internet use, but I’m having a major issue with the font/text display—it’s extremely unpleasant. No matter what I do, the text just doesn’t look smooth or natural.
As a first-time user of Windows 11, I searched online for solutions before reaching out here. I tried following the advice from various sources, including watching YouTube tutorials, but none of the common fixes seem to be working.
For instance, I diligently followed all the steps recommended in a specific video, but the problem persists across all applications. While Firefox is slightly better than Edge in terms of font display, overall, it still doesn’t feel “right.”
To provide better context, I’ll be attaching some screenshots as I’m unsure if I’m simply being paranoid. Can you take a look and let me know if you notice any issues with the text smoothness in these screenshots? I find it hard to articulate, but something definitely feels off. I’ve used older laptops running previous Windows versions, and the text rendering was way smoother than what I’m experiencing now.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated because I can’t stand this any longer—it’s really driving me crazy.

“I Never Expected to Be Impressed by Windows After My Experience with Vista – From a Mac User’s Pers
I recently acquired a Dell Latitude 3310 laptop for my severe weather chase team and ham radio activities. Coming from being primarily an Apple user since the release of Windows Vista, I never anticipated being impressed by any Windows version after the challenging experience with Vista. Surprisingly, after using the Dell laptop with Windows 11 Pro for a day and a half, I must admit that I am genuinely impressed with how well it functions.
Upon receiving the laptop, it had version 21H2 installed, and it suggested updating to version 22H2. I half-expected the update process to be disruptive, typical of past Windows experiences. However, I was pleasantly surprised when the update was completed and the system politely asked to schedule a restart for installation without interruption. Even during the installation process, which I anticipated to be complex and potentially problematic, everything proceeded smoothly and efficiently. When I resumed using the laptop in the evening, it performed flawlessly.
While it is still early to make a definitive assessment, my initial impression is that Microsoft may have indeed improved and created an operating system that functions seamlessly. Thus far, I am quite satisfied with Windows 11 Pro.

Numerous Items Unexpectedly Malfunctioning
I am currently utilizing a Lenovo laptop that offers a versatile design, transforming from a traditional laptop mode to a convenient tablet mode with a touchscreen feature. Although I am unable to pinpoint the exact model due to Windows concealing such details, it closely resembles the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 | 14-inch Intel® Evo™ laptop. My operating system is Windows version 22h2, with OS Build 2261.2506.
The primary functionalities of my device include seamless transition between keyboard and tablet modes, in addition to touchscreen capabilities. While it also features the TrackPoint pointer, I must clarify that the issues I am facing are software-related, as all hardware components function properly in other scenarios. For instance, the touchscreen may not be responsive on the desktop, but within the Windows Settings window, it works flawlessly, enabling scrolling.
I prefer utilizing the “Automatically Hide the Taskbar” option for maximizing desktop space and choose not to enable “Optimize taskbar for touch interactions when this device is a tablet.” The recent challenges began with an unexpected OneDrive login prompt, which led to authentication issues and unsuccessful attempts to submit Feedback Reports, resulting in extended loading times. Following a system restart and Windows Update installation, various malfunctions surfaced gradually.
Presently, certain prominent issues persist within my system:
1. Quick Access disappearance from File Explorer, with inaccurate resolution methods found online.
2. Touchscreen malfunction in initiating the Start Menu; only accessible via the mouse cursor.
3. Ineffective response when attempting to launch the Start Menu from the “four square” icon.
4. Failure of the Window key to activate the Taskbar and Start Menu, contrasting with Window-E for File Explorer.
5. Limited touch screen functionality on the desktop, barring Start Menu access.
6. Prolonged login durations and inconsistencies with OneDrive directory visibility and functionality.
These anomalies significantly impede the usability of my system, especially the unresponsive Start Menu. I aim to document and share visual evidence of these issues for comprehensive review and resolution. Your guidance and support in rectifying these concerns would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your assistance.

New Blog | Azure WAF’s Bot Manager 1.1 and JavaScript Challenge: Navigating the Bot Threat Terrain
By Andrew Mathu
Introduction
Bots are a common presence on the internet, serving a range of functions from automating customer service to indexing pages for search engines. However, their capabilities can be exploited for malicious activities, such as launching botnet attacks that can compromise web applications and disrupt services. Businesses continuously face the delicate balancing act of allowing good bots to perform their functions while preventing bad bots from causing harm.
To address these challenges, Azure Web Application Firewall (WAF) has new enhancements that provide advanced protection against such threats, ensuring the security and integrity of web applications. In this blog, we will explore Azure WAF Bot Manager 1.1 in Azure Front Door (AFD) and coming soon to Application Gateway WAF, as well as the WAF JavaScript Challenge which is available in both Application Gateway and Azure Front Door. New Blog | Microsoft Entra Internet Access now generally available
With the rise of hybrid work, identity and network security professionals are now at the forefront of protecting their organizations. Traditional network security tools fall short in meeting the integration, complexity, and scale requirements of anywhere access, leaving organizations exposed to security risks and poor user experiences. To address this, network security and identity must function as a unified force in defense. Only when identity and network controls deeply integrate into secure access, can we fully deliver on the core Zero Trust principles, where trust is never implicit and access is granted on a need-to-know and least-privileged basis across all users, devices, and applications.

After removing SfB on prem some users still show as AccountType – SfbOnPremUser
We recently moved to Teams Only and removed all of our SfB on prem servers. However, while attempting to use the Set-CsPhoneNumberAssignment on a user I got the following error message.
“The user is hosted in an on-premises deployment of Skype for Business Server. This user’s number must be changed in the on-premises environment and then synchronized to the cloud.”
It seems a few other users are in this state where Teams thinks they are still SfB on prem users.
Is there a way to stamp the on prem AD account with the correct properties so Teams know they are Teams users? I don’t have an on prem SfB server to move them to Teams. For example, could I modify one or more of the msRTCSIP attributes on the account?
We use Azure AD Connect to sync our users and are using Direct Routing.

What’s New in Copilot for Sales – September 2024
Microsoft Copilot for Sales is reimagining sales. Integrated seamlessly into your daily tools across Microsoft 365 and Teams, Copilot for Sales harnesses the power of generative AI and customer data to keep sellers in their flow of work so they can spend more time with customers.
This month, we’re enabling features to streamline your experiences in Outlook, Teams, and Copilot Studio. First up: we’re enabling email banners* that allow you to quickly update CRM data – right from the email message! Next, users signing in to Copilot for Sales for the first time can connect to their CRM directly from Teams rather than first having to sign in to Outlook. We also enabled zero-click sign-in for Copilot for Sales extensions using Entra ID, and finally, we’re making it easy to use the sample certified connector plugin – right from within Copilot Studio!
* shown on up to 2 external emails per day in the new Outlook for Windows and in Outlook on the Web.
Capabilities highlighted below are included in this month’s release of Copilot for Sales. It may take time for specific capabilities to reach every tenant in each market.
In Outlook
Streamline CRM Tasks with actionable message banners in Outlook
Effective management of important day-to-day CRM tasks, such as adding new contacts or leads and saving customer emails, is crucial for maintaining productive customer relationships. However, these tasks can often be overlooked when exchanging emails with customers in Outlook, with sellers either unaware that these tasks can be completed using Copilot for Sales or needing to self-navigate through the sidecar to complete them.
To simplify this process and ensure that critical CRM updates are never missed, we’ve introduced Actionable Message Banners directly within the sellers’ Outlook inbox. When reading emails from external customers, these banners will surface contextual prompts that guide sellers to perform important actions directly through Copilot for Sales, such as adding new contacts or leads and saving emails to the CRM, all helping sellers stay organized and save valuable time.
Each banner is contextual to the email on which it’s shown, surfacing only relevant content and actions.
Clicking on an action will take the seller directly to the appropriate experience in the sidecar to complete the action.
Banners will be shown on up to 2 external emails per user per day.
In Teams
CRM sign in experience in Teams
Today, first time users of Copilot for Sales who start from Teams face friction as they must go first to Outlook to sign into their CRM because sign in capabilities in Teams do not have parity and consistency with sign in capabilities in Outlook.
We’re excited to announce that starting this month we’re improving the sign in experience. For Copilot for Sales users who open the Teams Personal App:
Dynamics users will be automatically signed in to an environment even if they have never signed in before (similar rules as in Outlook) and they can confirm or change their environment! Also, if they have multiple environments, they will be able to switch their environment without signing out.
Salesforce® users will be able to sign in to any of their environments directly from the Teams Personal App.
Extensibility and Cross-Surface
Sample certified connector plugin for Copilot for Sales (preview)
Currently, customers have access to a sample connector solution that helps them understand how to build a new extension for Copilot for Sales; however, to see and learn from the sample connector solution in action, customers need to take multiple steps: (1) download the connector solution; (2) import the downloaded solution in their Dataverse environment connected to Copilot for Sales; and (3) create a connection action in Microsoft Copilot Studio.
We’re very pleased to announce that starting this month customers can accelerate and get started more quickly extending Copilot for Sales by using a certified connection action that customers can discover, enable and study – directly from Microsoft Copilot Studio!
To get started, follow the instructions in the Learn article Manage extensions for Copilot for Sales (preview) using Microsoft Copilot Studio and enable the Contoso Hub connector action for Copilot for Sales. We also have more information available about the sample certified connector action.
Simplified zero-click sign in experience for Copilot for Sales extensions using Microsoft Entra ID (preview)
Currently, Copilot for Sales users need to explicitly sign into connector plugins enabled to extend Copilot for Sales even if the connector plugin uses Microsoft Entra ID for authentication.
Starting this month, Copilot for Sales will silently create connections for connector plugins which use Microsoft Entra ID for authentication if the copilot administrator has already enabled the connector plugin for Copilot for Sales users.
This allows users to view data and insights from non-CRM applications that extend Copilot for Sales and use Microsoft Entra ID without explicitly signing into those applications again, saving time and energy.
You can learn more about how to create a custom connector and connector action and how to view insights from partner applications (preview) from within Copilot for Sales.

Only keeping a number/letter combination in a column
Hi all,
I want to Find and replace a column that has a bunch of rows with a text that says
“Liz A on 09/18/2024: 003TV00000DiIg6YAF”
The problem is the column will have a bunch of variety between the rows- for instance:
“Liz A on 9/19/2024: 9349943GTH4i98494”
“Liz A on 10/21/2023: 49849q1i9H0390339”
and so on (different number/letter variation and different text around it (the quotation and formatting stays the same but the info is different))
It could even be another user so the user changes.
I am wanting to delete all information in this column except the number/letter combination. But since the information around the number/letter combination can be different I’m not sure of an easy way to remove all of that text around it. Does anyone know of a way to go about this?

365, Google, and Teacher Privileges.
I am a Microsoft 365 admin for our school district. I would like to for a few of the teachers be granted the ability to add or delete student accounts without having any additional admin privileges. This would greatly assist our staff while ensuring security. We are a Google-based district using Chromebooks and MacBooks, but essential that our ICEV students have access to Microsoft 365 to meet their curriculum needs. Are there any settings that would allow for this to happen?
