Customer acquisition in the CSP/Microsoft 365 area
Hey all,
I run a small IT company in Germany and also make certain sales here via CSP.
Unfortunately, not much -> which is why I can’t put that much energy into the CSP business.
I have the feeling that many customers need to be convinced that “Office” now costs monthly or annually instead of buying a cheap full version every few years.
Arguments such as the fact that M365 is always kept up to date with updates, etc. often don’t count. Customers often want their Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and that’s all they want.
IT security is rarely an argument – and only if the customer has had to feel through pain in the past that security is important.
Surely there are people here who have been successful in this business for a long time.
Can you tell us how you acquired your CSP customers?
Are there any good methods “to get customers”?
Did you do any local marketing (put out flyers, etc.)? Or even online marketing with ads, etc.? I don’t know anything about that and whether it’s effective.
Or what did your marketing look like?
My customer acquisition is primarily cold calling at the moment. However, it would make sense for me to try other sales channels – what was most effective for you?
Thank you & best regards
Robin

Scheduling Management for Room Mailboxes
Greetings,
We have a few Teams rooms that will be used for classrooms. Is there a way to bulk load meetings (classes) ahead of time to the room mailbox?
For example we have a few classrooms that will hold classes specific dates/times. But we still want everyone else to have the ability to book the rooms.
I would also like to know what solution anyone else is using when booking meetings with Teams rooms that are used for classroom/meeting spaces.
Are there any solutions for scheduling management across multiple teams rooms? For example, a scheduling manager oversees multiple classrooms/meeting spaces and wants the ability to see the meetings and easily preload meetings ahead of time.
Thanks for any info!

Connecting to Azure Cache for Redis with Entra ID in Azure Government
I was working with a customer who was trying to connect their ASP.NET application to Azure Cache for Redis, and in particular wanted to be able to connect from their developer workstation to the resource in Azure Government.
There are a couple of ways to connect to Azure Cache for Redis, either by using Access Keys or via Entra ID. Like with storage accounts and Azure Database for SQL, using static access keys or username/password authentication presents potential vulnerabilities, and using Entra ID via either Service Principals or Managed Identities provides a more robust, manageable authentication and authorization mechanism.
The Azure.Identity library provides a class called DefaultAzureCredential, which does some interesting things around chained credentials. You can read the full article here, but put simply, when using DefaultAzureCredential it will try several authentication mechanisms in order until it is able to successfully obtain a token. The order of the chain is as follows:
Environment (Essentially an Entra App Service client ID/secret or certificate)
Workload Identity
Managed Identity
Visual Studio
Azure CLI
Azure PowerShell
Azure Developer CLI
Interactive browser
What this means is that, using the same authentication code, I can authenticate in an App Service using a Managed Identity, or locally in my Visual Studio development environment using an account configured in Azure Service Authentication. I don’t have to necessarily worry about how my app will authenticate in my environment so long as one of the options above is available.
Following the guidance in the Azure Cache for Redis Samples repo, the customer configured their Azure Cache for Redis connection as follows:
var configurationOptions = await ConfigurationOptions.Parse($”{_redisHostName}:6380″).ConfigureForAzureWithTokenCredentialAsync(new DefaultAzureCredential());
However, when they tried stepping through the code, they would get the following error: “Failed to acquire token’ – CredentialUnavailableException: EnvironmentCredential authentication unavailable. Environment variables are not fully configured. See the troubleshooting guide for more information. https://aka.ms/azsdk/net/identity/environmentcredential/“
I took a look at it and the first thing that jumped out is that we probably need to be specifying the AuthorityHost value, i.e. pointing the credential at the Azure Government cloud, like so:
var configurationOptions = await ConfigurationOptions.Parse($”{_redisHostName}:6380″).ConfigureForAzureWithTokenCredentialAsync(new DefaultAzureCredential(new DefaultAzureCredentialOptions() { AuthorityHost=AzureAuthorityHosts.AzureGovernment}));
However, this did not change my error at all. So, what’s going on?
It turns out, that looking in the Microsoft.Azure.StackExchangeRedis library, the ConfigureForAzureWithTokenCredentialAsync method does not yet have a way to specify a sovereign cloud endpoint (and if I’m reading the code correctly, also does not allow a ManagedIdentity to specify a sovereign cloud either). So, what now?
As it turns out, the option to use a Service Principal DOES allow you to specify a sovereign cloud to authenticate against. Creating a service principal in Entra is well documented, either in the portal as documented here, or via a simple az cli command:
az ad sp create-for-rbac –name “myredissp”
Once you have the service principal created, you can create a Redis user with the service principal in the Redis resource and connect to it in code with the following:
var configurationOptions = await ConfigurationOptions.Parse($”{_redisHostName}:6380″).ConfigureForAzureWithServicePrincipalAsync(clientId, tenantId, clientSecret, null, Microsoft.Identity.Client.AzureCloudInstance.AzureUsGovernment, null);
Hopefully in the future, the option to specify a target sovereign cloud will be included to be able to use the DefaultAzureCredential to connect to Redis, but for now we can use the Service Principal.

Windows 11 Home Insider Preview Evaluation copy. Build 27718.rs_prerelease.240927-1358 Discord Issue
Ever since I updated to the newest Windows 11 Home Insider Preview Windows Insider Program Canary Channel Update, Discord hasn’t been working. I emailed their support but I’m also gonna post the issue here. Discord is freezing, I can’t “X” out, I have to close out Discord with task manager. When I try to launch Discord back up, it takes a very long time to open up. I clear Discord cache files, that sort of works but after I delete those cache files, relaunch Discord and it finally pops back up, once I click on something inside Discord it freezes again. I reinstall Discord, that does nothing. My graphics drivers are up to date. So Idk what to do. I just want anyone to be aware of this in case it’s not something I can fix on my end.

What is to be done? Is there an option that I enabled without knowing? Or is a bug in the Word app? Thank you

Modern Charts in Access is GA!
The A-Team is pleased to announce that the long-awaited release of Access modern charts is now available to all users in the 365 Current Channel.
There are 10 new chart types: area, radar, arc, box and whisker, bubble, doughnut, funnel, scatter, waterfall, word cloud.
In addition, we’ve added additional features in both new and existing charts including gridlines, data labels in pie, arc, doughnut charts, and a new settings task pane for each chart type.
NOTE: The changes are only being implemented in Access 365.
a) For users running Access 2016/2019/2021 and upcoming 2024 perpetual, any new chart types used will revert to the default Combo chart type.
b) Users running Access 2013 or earlier cannot see any modern charts. The application will still run, but there will be an empty space where the modern chart is located.
For more information, check out MVP Colin Riddington’s excellent detailed article with examples New Modern Chart Improvements in Access and the updated documentation Create a chart on a form or a report.
Congrats to the Access Team, particularly the lead engineer on this project @Courtney Owen.

I am wondering whether I can get some better picture of what would be the impact of sharing encrypted documents to external parties.
My scenario:
I am using MS Purview to create sensitivity labels. I have two labels that apply encryption and the access/permission is set to “any authenticated users” and permission set to “co-author”. Now, I’ve sent this document via email to my personal gmail account. I do not have google workspace so cant properly check if there is any difference.
My experience was that I could not open that document using google doc for example.
If I place the label to email – it works fine as it takes me through the One time code and can open it. However, for documents id does not go through any OTP or so (which is a known limitation from what I’ve found on MS documentations),
Wondering, what is the best practice… or how you ppl deal whit these scenarios?

Is there a way to determine an equivalent circuit for Nyquist diagrams (I have the data set) using Matlab (or Simulink)?
I am working on gathering some Nyquist diagrams experimentally and facing some difficulties on simulating equivalent circuits for my data. What I have done so far is simply trying to come up with an idea of an equivalent circuit and seen if it fits the case. Well this is obscure and it is not always representative of what has been going on. So is it possible to use Matlab to construct/simulate equivalent circuits from experimental data?I am working on gathering some Nyquist diagrams experimentally and facing some difficulties on simulating equivalent circuits for my data. Admin Quarantine Location on Defender for Cloud Apps keeps going blank
Hi,
I am facing an issue where when I select a file location for admin quarantine on Defender for Cloud Apps, that file path just vanishes away the next day and it comes up as a blank location. I tried changing the SharePoint site multiple times but it still goes blank after a day. Has anybody encountered this lately ?
