Announcing UNLIMITED Public Preview of Metadata Caching for Azure Premium SMB/REST File Shares
Azure Files is excited to announce the Unlimited public preview of Metadata Caching for the premium SMB/REST file share tier.
Unlimited Public Preview allows customers to automatically self-serve the onboarding process though feature registration (AFEC) in the support regions.
Feature Overview
Metadata Caching is an enhancement aimed at reducing metadata latency for file workloads running on Windows/Linux clients. In addition to lowering metadata latency, workloads will observe a consistent latency experience which will allow metadata intensive workloads to be more predictable and deterministic. Reduced metadata latency also translates to more data IOPS (reads/writes) and throughput. Once the Metadata Caching feature is register within your subscription, there is no additional cost or operational management overhead when using this feature.
The following Metadata APIs will benefit from Metadata Caching.
Create: Creating a new file; Up to 30% Faster
Open: Opening a file; Up to 55% Faster
Close: Closing a file; Up to 45% Faster
Delete: Deleting a file; Up to 25% Faster
Workloads that perform a high volume of metadata operations (creating/opening/closing/deleting) against a SMB/REST Premium File share will receive the biggest benefit compared to workloads that are primarily data IO (e.g. databases)
Example of metadata heavy workloads include:
WebApp Services: Frequently accessed files for CMSLMS services such as MoodleWordPress.
IndexingBatch Jobs: Large scale processing using Azure Kubernetes or Azure Batch.
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure: Azure Virtual DesktopCitrix users with home directories or VDI applications management needs.
Business Application: Custom line of business or legacy application with “Lift and shift” needs.
CICD – DevOps Pipeline: Building, testing, and deployment workloads such as Jenkins open-source automation
GitHub Solutions using Metadata Caching
Moodle deployment + Azure Premium Files with Metadata Caching
Moodle consists of server hosting (cloud platforms), a database (MySQL, PostgreSQL), file storage (Azure Premium Files), and a PHP-based web server. It is used for course management (uploading materials, assignments, quizzes), user interaction (students accessing resources, submitting work, and discussions), and performance monitoring (tracking progress, reporting).
Metadata Cache Benefit: Provides a faster and more consistent user experience.
GitHub Actions + Azure Premium Files with Metadata Caching
GitHub Actions is an automation tool integrated with GitHub that allows developers to build, test, and deploy code directly from their repositories. It uses workflows, defined in YAML files, to automate tasks such as running tests, building software, or deploying applications. These workflows can be triggered by events like code pushes, pull requests, or scheduled times.
Metadata Cache Benefit: Shorter build and deployment times when using Azure Premium Files with Metadata cache as the build artifact.
Expected Performance Improvement with Metadata Cache.
2-3x Improved Metadata Latency Consistency
Up to 3x increased scale for Metadata operations
Improved Metadata Latency beyond 30%
Increased IOPS and Bandwidth up to 60%
How to get started
To get started, register your subscription with the Metadata Cache feature using Azure portal or PowerShell.
Australia Central
Jio India West
India South
Mexico Central
Norway East
Poland Central
Spain Central
Sweden Central
Switzerland North
UAE North
US West 3
Note: As we extend region support for the Metadata Cache feature, Premium File Storage Accounts in those regions will be automatically onboarded for all subscriptions registered with the Metadata Caching feature.
Who should Participate?
Whether it is a new workload looking to leverage file shares or existing ones looking for improvements. Any workloads/usage patterns that contains metadata should be encouraged to onboard, specifically metadata heavy workloads that consist primarily of Create/Open/Close or Delete requests.
To determine if your workload contains metadata, can use Azure Monitor to split the transactions by API dimension as described in the following article
Thanks

Why am I unable to load a Python module that requires a certain CUDA version in MATLAB after calling a MATLAB function that uses CUDA enabled GPU?
I am using the Deep Learning Toolbox and GPU computation in MATLAB R2021b with the function "predict".
After calling this function, I wish to load the Python module PyTorch into MATLAB. My PyTorch version is 2.1.2+cu121, which means it comes with and uses CUDA version 12.1.
However, when I run the command to import PyTorch in MATLAB, the following error is thrown.

Statically Inderteminant Beam Using Finite Difference Method
Dear all
I am trying to code for the displacements of statically Inderterminant beam using the finite difference method. It appears that I am not that far off from achieving this, however, in one of the points that I have discretized I am getting an incorrect result.
Here, is the graph that comes from the software and what I am trying to replicate:
Here is the graph in MATAB:
As can been seen there is an anomaly at x = 4.1m at which the vertical result is zero. The displacement should only be zero at x = 0m, 5m and 8m.
I don’t know if there is an error in my code, but I can’t seem to find anything myself.
Here is my code:

Partner center account removed suddenly!!
Hello. I’m an individual developer for Microsoft apps since the old days of Windows Mobile 6.5 , Windows Phone, Windows 8,8.1 , 10 and now 11.
I’m a registered individual developer since 2008 (yeah, that’s correct, 16 years).
I have published over 50+ different applications for different platforms. Windows desktop, MS Edge extension developer, Azure dev etc…
Since last month, I received some app removal of some old apps I had in MS Store (all of them 100%).
After a communication with the report app team they explained what I must don’t do and I started updating the problematic apps according their instructions.
But, suddenly, yesterday a got an email that my account is removed and to read the ADA (application developer agreement).
I already contact by email the reportapp Team to try to fix this and to restore my account.
Can someone from MS explain to me this “behavior “ . Is this something personal against me? I don’t make any problems, I just dev apps , focus only on MS products, and provide them almost always for free, without any subscriptions or costs. I have build a personal ecosystem around my partnership with MS . Developing but using also Azure monthly subscriptions (heavily costed).

How to copy the location from an existing calendar item
Subj says it all. I created a calendar item with the location no problem. I needed to make more calendar items using the same location, but I cant for the life of me figure out how to copy the location data. Clicking the location opens a subform that lists the address however there is no way I can find to copy it. I ended up typing teh address in notepad so I could copy/paste into the calendar invites.
What am I missing? Or is this another “improvement”?

SUMPRODUCT
Hi
Im trying to get an automatic formula to get the results of cell C7, however in D7 there is an error that I can’t fix. Any suggestions?
C5 formula =SUMPRODUCT($C4:C4,$C$11:INDEX($C$11:$C$16,COLUMN(C5)-COLUMN($C$4)+1))
C6 =SUMPRODUCT($C4:D4,$C$11:INDEX($C$11:$C$16,COLUMN(D5)-COLUMN($C$4)+1))
expected results are in row 7, I’m trying to find a way to automate with an easy formula

Introducing the Azure NMads MA35D: Exclusive Media Processing Powerhouse in the Cloud
Azure is proud to announce the exclusive launch of the NMads MA35D Virtual Machine (VM) – a groundbreaking addition to our portfolio specifically designed to redefine media processing and video transcoding in the cloud. This Microsoft-exclusive VM harnesses the power of AMD’s Alveo MA35D accelerator to deliver unparalleled media processing capabilities, offering enterprises the scalability, efficiency, and performance they need to push their workloads to the next level.
What Makes the Azure NMads MA35D So Special?
In an age where high-quality video content is crucial to communication, entertainment, and business, efficient media processing has never been more important. The Azure NMads MA35D sets a new standard for media workloads, offering enhanced throughput, ultra-low latency, and remarkable cost efficiency. Let’s dive into the key features that make this VM a truly exclusive game-changer.
Key Features of NMads MA35D
Unprecedented Throughput:
The NMads MA35D VM supports up to 16 simultaneous 1080p60 video streams using a mix of H.264 and AV1 codecs, offering 40-50% better throughput compared to the Nvidia L4. Recent tests have shown that while the Nvidia L4 requires slower encoding presets (like 5-7) to match the video quality of the AMD Alveo MA35D, it results in a much lower channel count. At the card level, the MA35D supports 32 simultaneous streams (with two VMs per card), but at the VM level, Azure provides 16 streams per NMads MA35D VM. This VM’s ability to maintain high throughput and efficiency without compromising speed makes it a superior choice for high-density video processing workloads.
Ultra-Low Latency for Real-Time Processing:
Media services and live events demand speed. The NMads MA35D delivers 8ms latency for 4Kp60 AV1 streams, enabling real-time video processing for live streaming, broadcasting, and interactive media applications. This exclusivity puts you at the forefront of delivering high-definition content to users without compromise.
Superior Compression Efficiency:
Leveraging the power of the Advanced Media Accelerator (AMA) SDK, the VM uses 15% fewer bits to achieve the same visual quality in AV1 encoding. This efficiency translates to lower bandwidth costs for businesses running high-quality streaming services, enabling them to reach a broader audience without sacrificing quality.
Cost-Efficiency and Scalability:
Designed for large-scale deployments, the NMads MA35D maximizes stream density per VM, resulting in a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for enterprises. Whether you’re running an over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform or an internal video conferencing service, the scalability of the NMads MA35D allows you to grow your media processing capabilities without additional infrastructure costs.
NMads MA35D: Real-World Applications
The Azure NMads MA35D isn’t just another VM – it’s the exclusive media processing powerhouse that’s transforming real-world applications today. Here’s how it’s expected to make a difference:
Microsoft Teams: Microsoft Teams is currently exploring the integration of the NMads MA35D to enhance video quality in conference calls. This integration demonstrates how enterprises can leverage this VM to scale their video processing needs while providing a crystal-clear user experience.
OTT Streaming Services: For media companies offering streaming platforms, the NMads MA35D enables them to handle multiple streams simultaneously, reducing bandwidth costs through superior compression. By providing near-zero latency, it ensures viewers receive the highest quality content in real time, keeping them engaged and satisfied.

CTRL + End in table not going to last cell in table
When you hit ctrl + end in a table, shouldn’t it select the last cell in that table? Today, I inserted a column in a table, then deleted it, and when I hit ctrl end, it selected the last cell outside of the table as if it was still including that column as data. I swear that isn’t right, right? I do this all day every day and now feel that I am losing my mind. There is no other data in the workbook. Did something get pushed out overnight?

Shows 403 when trying to do “get”->api.security.microsoft.com/api/dataexportsettings via code
Hey folks!
I’m trying to automate creation of “data export settings” in Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. Path to find it in UI – {Endpoints > Partners and APIs > API Explorer}.
When I try to “GET” > api.security.microsoft.com/api/dataexportsettings on UI it works and shows me the connections configured BUT when I try to do the same via powershell it shows me 403.
I have followed https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/defender-endpoint/api/exposed-apis-create-app-webapp to use an application to authenticate. I have enabled all the “application” permissions in WindowsDefenderATP (count 31) still looks like I don’t have the correct permission assigned.
Any idea what’s the permission I’m missing here?
I’d appreciate any help!
