WHfB prompting for password at first login
Hi All,
I can’t seem to get these Intune policies correct for WHfB (Windows Hello for Business)
I want WHfB active using a pin for a customer. I have a test VM setup and registered with WHfB correctly. When you first power on the machine and login, there is no prompt for a pin, only the M365 password. Once logged in, I can lock, or log off and I am prompted with the PIN login. I restart the VM and I am pack to having to use a password for the initial login.
I have WHfB setup in the following areas
Endpoint security | Account protection (Assigned to All devices and All users)Use Windows Hello for Business (Device) – TrueUse Windows Hello for Business (User) – True (tried without this first)Minimum PIN length – 6Devices | EnrollmentConfigure Windows Hello for Business – EnabledTPM – PreferredMinimum PIN length – 6Allow biometric – YesAllow phone sign-in – YesDevices | Configuration (assigned to All users & All devices)Turn on convenience PIN sign-in – EnabledMinimum PIN Length (User) – 6Use Windows Hello For Business (User) – TrueUse Remote Passport – EnabledAllow Use of Biometrics – True
I know there is quite some double up having this configured at all possible levels. I started with Device enrollment and a configuration profile, and then moved to Account protection.
I’m currently going round in circles trying to work out why the initial login isn’t prompting for a PIN.
(I also built a new VM and it’s doing the same thing). Although, first reboot it worked fine from memory.
Thanks in advance Guru’s

Any alternatives to Change service executable path to a common protected location?
Hi all,
We have a security recommendation to Change service executable path to a common protected location, e.g., move the service/app to C:Program Files.
The service/app in question was installed by a vendor on a different drive letter, and to move it per the above recommendation will cost (a lot of) time and money for them to do.
Are there any alternatives to this, such as hardening/strengthening the current file/folder path?

SQL server 2019 Express “Cannot connect to DESKTOP-KEBH091SQLEXPRESS.”
Hi all
I am starting learning sql server
I installed SQQL server 2019 express on my laptop by following the tutorial here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFY3z4FwRg0&list=PLoyECfvEFOjYH2C2vl2A8yBPrbkVSbj9l&index=1 (from 4:50 to 8:00)
It worked fine until I decided to upgrade to SQL server 2022 Express. The installation was not successful, and I decided to switch back to 2019. But this one is not working either.
When I try to connect I get a message stating ‘Cannot connect to DESKTOP-KEBH091SQLEXPRESS.’ Where DESKTOP-KEBH091 is my laptop.
I uninstalled all sql on my machine and restarted te installation, but the problem persists. I tried 3times with no luck. I am desperate.
Please help

MATLAB Plots *.tif According to Light
Hi,
I am trying to plot a lunar terrain from a *.stl file. You can see the real image and plot in photos. MATLAB is plotting the deepest place as dark blue, the highest as yellow, but the thing is MATLAB’s dark blue is not actually the deepest place, it is just shadow, likewise MATLAB’s yellow actually isn’t the highest place, it just takes the most light so its brighter. This is my code snippet to plot it. My real aim is to create a simulation, therefore I need the surface model.
[dem, ~] = readgeoraster(‘moon1m-a.tif’);
gridSize = 3900;
start = 1;
[X, Y] = meshgrid(1:gridSize, 1:gridSize);
Z = dem(start:start+gridSize-1, start+gridSize-1:-1:start);
figure
mesh(X, Y, Z);
Images are aligned, you can see the shadow places at the bottom right.
I can’t put the file into the attachments, it is too big even after compressing. I can put the *.tif into a 3D drawing tool, this is the output.
Any help would be appreciated.

Setting up MS Project for portfolio mgmt and governance
I am a project manager for an organization of about 230 people, we have about 40-50 projects in flight at anyone time, these are internal projects. However, as we grow we are developing our PMO team for portfolio management and project governance. I have been tasked with building this out and creating a dashboard.
We utilize TEAMS heavily for this which works quite well, however, we can’t get the dashboards and reporting we want out of planner/tasks/project in TEAMs. I’ve been looking into “Project Web App” or “PWA” aka Project Online and utilizing the Microsoft Project Online Desktop. I like the desktop and PWA options but I am struggling to get it setup properly and figuring out how to visually show the Gantt chart view with tasks in TEAMS, having this integration is important but the version available isn’t robust enough for our needs, thought PWA and the linked desktop version are.
I’m looking to find an organization I can contract with to develop this for us or some better resources I can use and work with my IT department.

Embracing AI for a competitive edge: How AI-enabled PCs position your business to lead
The 2024 Microsoft Work Trend Index Annual Report, AI at Work Is Here. Now Comes the Hard Part, reveals a pivotal shift in how organizations must adapt to remain competitive: AI has moved beyond the horizon and into the everyday workflows of millions. With 75% of global knowledge workers now using AI, the moment has come for businesses to seize their potential. Equipping teams with AI-enabled PCs that drive productivity, spark creativity, and fortify security is the way forward.
AI: The New Standard in the Workplace
AI’s rapid rise in the workplace highlights its transformative power. 79% of business leaders acknowledge its necessity for maintaining a competitive edge, yet 60% admit their organizations lack a clear roadmap for its integration. This gap between recognition and execution presents both a challenge and an opportunity.
Organizations must shift their perspective, from viewing AI as a future enhancement to embracing it as a core component of their strategy and operations. Achieving this shift becomes simpler with hardware that unlocks AI’s full potential. AI-enabled Microsoft Surface devices, designed with advanced productivity, processing, and data protection features, align well with the evolving needs of enterprise environments. They offer the intuitive experiences, future-proof technology, and robust security required for effective AI integration.
Enhancing Productivity with AI-Enabled PCs
The report highlights that AI users already experience significant benefits, with 90% reporting time savings and 85% able to focus on critical tasks. These benefits are amplified when AI is paired with hardware designed to optimize its potential. AI-enabled PCs, like those in the Surface series, provide a seamless, intuitive user experience by integrating advanced AI features directly into the device’s core functions.
Surface devices, equipped with NPUs (Neural Processing Units), offer the performance needed to keep up with modern workflows, ensuring that users can maximize the power of AI in their daily tasks. These PCs redefine productivity by enabling on-device AI processing, which reduces latency and enhances the speed and efficiency of tasks such as live captions, real-time translations, and video processing.
Driving innovation with AI-optimized hardware
As businesses increasingly turn to AI to innovate, the right hardware becomes essential. Within the next five years, 41% of business leaders expect to redesign their processes with AI at the center. Surface devices are built for this future, designed to scale and adapt as AI capabilities evolve.
Surface devices equipped with NPUs allow for the local development and execution of AI models, providing businesses with the agility to build and run those models locally. This can accelerate AI value and enable companies to apply the technology in scenarios where compliance requires stringent data controls.
Securing the AI-driven workplace
Seventy-eight percent of AI users bring their own tools to work—a strong indicator that people see the value in AI. However, this also raises a key question for businesses: wouldn’t it be better if employees used tools that you can oversee, manage, and secure? Surface devices deliver compelling AI experiences so employees will prefer using managed, secured experiences over the alternatives.
Surface devices integrate trusted Microsoft security from the supply chain to hardware, firmware to the security and management ecosystem. They are equipped with features like TPM 2.0, Microsoft Pluton technology, and Windows Hello, offering robust protection against both physical and digital threats. These measures empower businesses to embrace AI securely, ensuring that data remains protected and easily managed across the organization.
Embracing AI to stay competitive
Despite AI’s growing presence in the workplace, there remains a cultural hesitation around its use. Over half of the workforce worries that using AI makes them appear replaceable, yet 66% of employers indicate they would not hire someone without AI skills. This paradox highlights the need for a cultural shift within organizations—a shift that can be signaled by investing in AI-enabled PCs.
Choosing AI-optimized devices like Surface sends a clear message: AI is not something to be feared but embraced. By providing employees with the tools, they need to maximize AI’s potential, businesses redefine productivity and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Preparing for the AI-driven future
The 2024 Work Trend Index makes it clear that AI is no longer a future consideration but a present reality. To fully capitalize on the opportunities AI presents, businesses must equip their teams with the right tools. Surface devices offer the processing power, security, and innovation needed to thrive in an AI-driven workplace. By adopting these devices, organizations can ensure they keep pace with technological advancements and lead the charge into a new era of productivity and innovation.

Facing Error in installing SimMechanics for Inventor 2022

Volume Shadow Service crashes within NTDLL.DLL
I am trying to back up my disk with Dantz Retrospect using Open Volume Backup — i.e. VSS disk images. This has worked well for over a year, but since August 3, 2024 I am getting this event in the Windows 10 Event viewer:
Faulting application name: vssvc.exe, version: 10.0.19041.4355
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.19041.4522
Exception code: 0xc0000374
Fault offset: 0x00000000000f
I have re-registered all the dlls.
I have rummaged around on ChatGPT and Copilot for suggestions. None of them identified or resolved the problem. I have run:
scf /scannowother suggested utilities that I am not allowed to post here
I have re-installed Windows 10 and applied all the updates again.
I also get the same error if I try to create a Volume Shadow Copy “manually.”
So, it seems to me that this may have been caused by the KB5040525 update? How do I figure out for sure what the problem is and how do I fix it? Copilot claims no one else has seen the problem.
Upgrading to Windows 11 is not an option as my hardware is not supported there.

Solve more complex problems in matlab
Hello, I have the following problem: Determine m so that the equation (m-2)x²-3mx+(m+2)=0 has one positive root and one negative root.
I have written the following code and I am getting Empty sym: 0-by-1
syms x m
assume(m~=0);
eq = (m-2)*x^2-3*m*x+(m+2) == 0;
eq_roots = solve(eq, x);
x1 = eq_roots(1);
x2 = eq_roots(2);
cond1 = x1 < 0;
cond2 = 0 < x2;
s=solve([cond1, cond2], m, ‘Real’, true,’ReturnConditions’, true)
s.conditions
Is there any way to solve problems like this in matlab?

How do I get past grid parameter restrictions when trying to create custom training data for a YOLOv4 LIDAR object detection network?
I have been following and modifying the example for LIDAR Complex-YOLOv4 Object Detection, and I am running into an issue when creating training data using the createTrainingData.m file. The Standard pcRange block [xMin = -25.0 xMax = 25.0 yMin = 0.0 yMax = 50.0 zMin = -7.0 and zMax = 15.0] is too small for my data set, and the origin position cuts off most of the point cloud regions I want to capture (see image ROI_within_PointCloud). I would like to adjust the pcRange to allow for an ROI as seen in the attached image DesiredROI_2D_PointCloud.
When I drop the xMin and/or yMin values below the standard, i.e. xMin < -25 and/or yMin < 0, to capture the desired region I receive the following error:
———————————————————————————————————–
Error using sub2ind (line 71)
Out of range subscript.
Error in helper.preprocess (line 53)
mapIndices = sub2ind([bevHeight,bevWidth],locMod(:,1),locMod(:,2));
Error in createTrainingData (line 42)
[processedData,~] = helper.preprocess(ptCloud,gridParams);
———————————————————————————————————-
As far as I can tell after diving into the sub2ind function, this error is occuring due to v, the newly sorted array of points, failing this portion of the if statement: min(v,[],’all’) < 1. I can adjust xMax and yMax to be larger in the positive direction and have no issues.
How do I get past this issue and move/modify the region of interest within the point cloud scene? Can I adjust the origin location of the point cloud some how? Or can I remove the restriction on expanding the ROI into the negative quadrants?I have been following and modifying the example for LIDAR Complex-YOLOv4 Object Detection, and I am running into an issue when creating training data using the createTrainingData.m file. Box-Whisker Plot with 5 and 95 percentiles and non-symmetric distributions.
Dear all,
I have a 1000×2 matrix, M, where each column represents the data of two variables. I would like to plot a boxplot of the two distributions of the data, by specifying the length of the whiskers:
boxplot(M,’Whisker’,w)
However, I would like the upper and lower whiskers to represent the 5th and 95th percentiles respectively. In doing so, I have two problems:
Both the distributions are highly non-symmetric, therefore, the suggestion provided here does not work, since the multiplier w is not the same for the upper and lower whiskers.
Apparently, w can only takes on a scalar value, therefore, I cannot specify different multipliers for different distributions. Is there a way around this problem. In a follow up question of the same Q&A they suggest to use hold on, however the output is not good because of the overlapping of the figures.
It would be great if w could take the form of a 2xsize(M,2) array, in order to specify a specific multiplier for each distribution and for both the upper and lower whisker separately. However, I was not capable of editing in this way the original "boxplot" function.
Thanks in advance,
EdoardoDear all,
