Cannot create a new azure account because it think’s I’m canadian (Support says I cannot fix this)?!
Really frustrating. I’ve never used Azure before, but I was curious about giving it a shot and comparing to AWS and GCP. All azure signup forms are stuck with Canada as the country, and country dropdowns are disabled.
I’ve never even been to Canada!
After a month long back and forth with customer support, they let me know that at some point, I must have accidentally selected Canada when starting the form, and that information got stuck in my account somehow. They said this is permanent, and there’s nothing I can do to change my account’s country (despite never having successfully started using azure!).
This is clearly a bug and shouldn’t be possible – but my email address is permanently associated with Canada, and I can never create a new azure account using this email again unless I decide to move to Canada!
Customer support feels like a dystopian ChatGPT nightmare, continually telling me to use a Canadian address if I want to make an account, despite that being impossible.
Support did let me know that I could make a new email address if I wanted to use Azure, but that feels pretty ridiculous considering I’d like all billing alerts to go to my primary email so I don’t miss them.
Anyway, I just needed to vent. This feels ridiculous and puts an awful taste in my mouth compared to AWS and GCP.
