Lock screen crashes occurring on multiple systems that require a forced power cycle to recover
I have multiple windows 11 23H2 systems that exhibit the same behaviour of the lock screen process, alongside searchapp, crashing after the displays have gone to sleep, they run different hardware and drivers so its not specific to that, this seems to be a very specific bug with windows 11 itself.
This is a very severe problem that I need a proper solution to, and disabling screen sleep behaviour doesn’t work as selecting the “never” option will just revert it back to the 15 minutes option.
Using ctrl+win+shift+B to reset the drivers does nothing, since the drivers themselves have not crashed, so it will simply just sit on all screens being black and the lock screen process will never be restarted, which is an additional windows fault of itself since it should always ensure that the process is running even after a crash.
The current crash events I see in event viewer are;
“The program SearchHost.exe version 624.7505.30.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.”
followed by
“The program LockApp.exe version 10.0.22621.3527 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed.”
and about 12 events of WindowsBlackScreenDiagnosticsV1 and LiveKernelEvent, sometimes the search and lock events are printed repeatedly and sometimes they are just singular, its unknown if the other events are specific to forcing driver resets.
Microsoft support told me directly to report these bugs here, and I already reported the bugs via feedback hub before contacting them, but as is usual I never see anything critical in the feedback hub ever fixed…

Centralized private resolver architecture implementation using Azure private DNS resolver
This article walks you through the steps to setup a centralized architecture to resolve DNS names, including private DNS zones across your Azure network and on-premises DNS using an Azure DNS private Resolver in a hub and spoke VNet topology.
Architecture diagram:
In the above architecture:
Two VNets are created: “HUB-VNET” and “SPOKE-VNET”.
An Azure DNS private resolver is created in the HUB-VNET with inbound endpoint at (10.0.0.4)
A DNS forwarding ruleset is created for the private resolver “myruleset”.
The DNS forwarding ruleset is linked to the HUB-VNET.
Rules are added to the DNS forwarding ruleset for the on-premises DNS server.
HUB-VNET is linked to all the Azure private DNS zones with Virtual network link.
On-premises network is simulated as a third VNet and is peered to the HUB-VNET.
ExpressRoute, Azure Firewall and ExpressRoute gateway are representational. On-prem to Azure connectivity could be a mix & match of ExpressRoute and Site-to-Site.
A conditional forwarder is created in the on-premises DNS server for the private DNS zones configured on Azure to inbound endpoint at (10.0.0.4).
Create Azure Hub virtual network:
Create HUB-VNET with address space 10.0.0.0/24 and two subnets.
Subnet name: snet-inbound
Subnet address range: 10.0.0.0/28
Subnet name: snet-outbound
Subnet address range: 10.0.0.16/28
Create a DNS resolver inside the Azure HUB virtual network:
Create DNS private resolver in “HUB-VNET” with a DNS forwarding ruleset “myruleset”
DNS forwarding ruleset “myruleset” is created and linked to the HUB-VNET during the DNS private resolver creation. In this example there is only one rule in the ruleset.
Rule Name: onprem-contosocom
Domain name: contoso.com
Destination IP: port: 192.168.0.4:53 (On-premises DNS server)
Add a Virtual network link for HUB-VNET with Azure private DNS “privatelink.blob.core.windows.net”
Create Azure spoke virtual network:
Create SPOKE-VNET with address space 10.0.1.0/24 and one subnet.
Subnet name: app-subnet
Subnet address range: 10.0.1.0/26
Create a peering connection between SPOKE-VNET and HUB-VNET.
Specify the inbound endpoint IP address of the DNS private resolver (10.0.0.4) as the custom DNS server for SPOKE-VNET.
Create a conditional forwarder:
On-premise DNS server conditional forwarder
DNS Domain: blob.core.windows.net
Forwarder: 10.0.0.4
Test the DNS resolution
Now you should be able to send resolve DNS from Azure to on-premise as well as on-premise to Azure.
DNS resolution On-Premises:
On-premise client query’s on-premise DNS server (192.168.0.4).
On-premise DNS name is resolved by the on-prem DNS server
For Azure private DNS conditional forwarder is used. On-premise DNS server forwards the DNS request to Azure private DNS resolver inbound endpoint (10.0.0.4).
Azure private DNS resolver uses the outbound endpoint to query Azure DNS (168.63.129.16) and resolves the DNS query for “myblobdnsdemo.blob.core.windows.net.” to (192.168.2.78)
DNS resolution in the hub VNet:
The virtual network link from the private zone to the Hub VNet enables resources inside the hub VNet to automatically resolve DNS records in privatelink.blob.core.windows.net using Azure-provided DNS (168.63.129.16).
Based on the ruleset “myruleset”, DNS resolution for contoso.com is forwarded and resolved through on-premise DNS server (192.168.0.4).
All the namespaces which are not matching the ruleset rule are resolved without forwarding using Azure-provided DNS. E.g. public DNS names.
DNS resolution in the spoke VNet:
The spoke VNet uses custom DNS and sends all of its DNS traffic to the inbound endpoint in the Hub VNet.
Since “privatelink.blob.core.windows.net” has a virtual network link to the Hub VNet, all resources in the Hub can resolve “privatelink.blob.core.windows.net”, including the inbound endpoint (10.0.0.4). So, the spoke uses the hub inbound to resolve the private zone.
Contoso.com DNS names is resolved for the spoke VNet through (192.168.0.4) according to rules provisioned in a forwarding ruleset.
Conclusion: Azure private DNS resolver helps implement a private resolver architecture without worrying about maintaining your own DNS server.
One can implement a centralized private resolver architecture as shown above example or can implement a distributed DNS architecture. In case of a distributed DNS architecture, the DNS forwarding ruleset is linked to the spoke VNet with a ruleset rule configured to forward queries for the private zone to the inbound endpoint (10.0.0.4) of the private DNS resolver deployed in the hub VNet and another rule to forward queries for contoso.com to on-premise DNS server (192.168.0.4)
DNS resolution in the hub VNet does not require a ruleset for private zones as it can resolve privatelink.blob.core.windows.net using Azure-provided DNS (168.63.129.16). It requires a ruleset to forward queries for contoso.com as shown in the above example “myruleset” rule “onprem-contosocom”.
Important: Hub VNet linked ruleset must not be linked to a forwarder ruleset with an inbound endpoint forwarding rule because this configuration can cause a DNS resolution loop.

I am developing a series of forecasts for health care services using historical per capita rates as the source data. In some areas, there has been a rapid decline in use. When this is forecast using a standard linear regression model the values quickly become negative. Given that these are unrealistic results (you can’t have negative health care services), I have capped the values at zero.
In this instance, there will always be some usage. What is a sensible way to determine a floor value that is greater than zero?

Filtering for specific rows and concatenating cells within that row
I have made some headway on this one, but falling short. I need to filter for rows with a specific cell value. Then once found, return a specific cell and concatenate a group of other cells in that row. What I have working is only an attempt at the filter and concatenation but my formula is concatenating all rows with the specific cell value “BUNDLE IDENTIFIER”. I think if I had a unique value , I could reduce the scope. I know there has to be a better way.

Outlook is attempting to authenticate to the Exchange server using local username and password
Hi!
We are using Exchange Server 2016 with the latest updates and primarily using Outlook 2019 or 2021 clients. We have bound an internal Exchange mailbox account, and every time Outlook is launched on a non-domain computer, it attempts multiple authentications on the Exchange server using the local user account (some of my users are working on non-domain computers). However, Outlook actually functions properly. I’m not sure why it is attempting to authenticate using the local username. I have checked if the incorrect username and password are saved in the Credential Manager for the user. I can see a large number of Event 4625 audit failures in the failed logs on the Exchange server,
corresponding to my non-domain computer account “ZYY” in this case.

New problem adding mailboxes with personalized domain to Outlook with Microsoft 365 Family ?

Having a big problem with this recently and need your help to understand if Microsoft has made a general change with Office 365 Family accounts with personalized domains, or if it is just my individual problem.
I’ve been running Outlook on my PC with a Office 365 Family account and personalized / custom domain @NotMyRealDomain.EMAIL using namesilo.com for DNS for 1.5 years.
Everything worked fine, although in my online (outlook.live.com) web-based mailbox under Settings->Premium–>Personalized Email Address, it has always said “We couldn’t connect the domain NotMyRealDomain.EMAIL to Outlook. Cancel setup and try again.” But as I said everything worked so I didn’t mess with this. (Now if I press “cancel setup” it warns me that this will disconnect my personalized domain and I wont be able to restore it due to MS discontinuing support for personalized domains in the Office Family plan. So I’m definitely not pressing that button.)
The problem is that my Outlook profile is corrupted (I think) and to debug the problem I need to create a new profile. But I cant.
When I try to create a new profile, it fails to add my mailbox using Autodiscover. I enter my email address RON@NotMyRealDomain.EMAIL and my password, it tries to setup outlook and eventually fails. Manual setup also fails. In some cases it complains the username RON@NotMyRealDomain.EMAIL is incorrect, in other cases it says it cannot contact the server. At the same time, I have no problems using this email address using the web-client.
This worked 3-4 months ago, and nothing changed except I updated my version of Office.
So I suspect that Microsoft changed something with how Outlook recognizes and/or configures mailboxes.
Can somebody who runs outlooks with a Family 365 account with a personalized domain (ideally not on godaddy) please try to create a new additional profile to see if you have the same issue?
If it works OK for you and if you are not running the latest version of Outlook (Outlook for Microsoft 365 Version 2404 Build 16.0.17531.20128 MSO 64-bit, the latest Current Channel version) can you try updating your Office to see if that causes the problem?
If indeed MS changed something it could be bad news…

I have written code to filter an array of data:

How can I make the filter leave only the values in the array and delete all rows that are not in the array?

isdate function in SQL server
I am using isdate function to verify after extracting the first 8 chars from a sting.
isdate() returned 1 with the example below and my following code failed to calculated a Datediff().
Declare @Mystr varchar(29)
SET @Mystr=’05/020/2′
Select IsDate(’05/020/2′)
Is there any other similar function in SQL?

Stuck in language pack installation process
Hi, I just got my new alienware gaming computer which comes with windows 11 pro system, I successfully downloaded the Chinese(simplied) language pack and restarted the laptop to apply the new display language, however it stuck at the restarting process for hours, it is now shows a black screen with the following words: “updates are underway. Please keep your computer on.” And that’s it for hours, I don’t think the restarting and installing process can take this long, please let me know what I can do now. It asks me to keep the computer on so I am so afraid to turn it off and on…

Blazor server app with Windows authentication getting 401 unauthorized
I’m building a Blazor server application for an internal company use and using Windows authentication. The app is supposed to field updates from another app via an exposed controller. I am trying to test the controller and getting a 401 unauthorized however I try to hit it (Postman, browser, test Console app, from within the Blazor server app itself, etc.). I’m running .NET 6 and scaffolded the app using Visual Studio and selecting Windows Authentication from the Create Project wizard for Blazor server app. I’m running the app from Visual Studio using IIS Express option. Here is the simple test I set up in the Console app just trying to get a positive response from the controller:
