Organizations can now update security intelligence (also referred to as “signatures”) on Linux endpoints with limited or no exposure to the internet using a local hosting server. Exercise better control over the download and deployment of signatures on their Linux servers running critical workloads.
In addition, these are the benefits of the new offline security intelligence update capability:
Control and manage the frequency of signature downloads on the local server and endpoints pulling signatures from the local server.
Get peace of mind by being able to test the downloaded signatures on a test device before propagating it to the entire fleet.
Reduce network bandwidth as now, on behalf of your entire fleet, only one local server will poll Microsoft Cloud to get the latest signatures.
Run any of the 3 major platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux) on the local server without needing to install Defender for Endpoint.
Know you are getting the latest antivirus protection as signatures are always downloaded along with the latest compatible AV engine.
Trust that there are backups in case. For every update, signature with n-1 version is moved to a backup folder on the local server. In case of any issue with the latest signature, you can pull the n-1 signature version from the backup folder to your endpoints. On the rare occasion offline update fails, you can also choose to fallback to online update directly from Microsoft Cloud.

Connecting Azure to Mainframes with Low Latency
Many organizations are running their mission critical workloads on the mainframe and would greatly benefit by incorporating the mainframe in their strategic cloud initiatives. With Ensono’s Cloud-Connected Mainframe for Microsoft Azure solution, clients can leverage cloud native services from Microsoft Azure for their mission critical mainframe workloads and enable a large-scale migration to the cloud for surrounding servers that have latency sensitivity to the mainframe.

The solution leverages a low latency connection to Azure (inclusive of Ingress and Egress) and a well architected Azure reference architecture that enables various cloud connected scenarios, such as data migration, application modernization, and AI analytics. The offering is available through the Azure Marketplace and is Azure Benefit Eligible, enabling customers to incorporate mainframe components into their Azure Roadmap.

Solving Latency + Egress Concerns for Surrounding Ecosystem
By leveraging an ExpressRoute Local connection and Ensono’s Remote Hosted Mainframe solution, we can minimize latency between the Azure environment and the mainframe to as little as 2.5ms or less, depending on the solution configuration. Network connectivity is inclusive of ingress, egress charges and creates a predictable cost model for scenarios where a client needs to transfer large amounts of data between the mainframe and Azure. Unlocking surrounding workloads of their latency constraint will allow clients to migrate more workloads to the cloud and to reimagine the configuration of the mainframe environment.
For example, more tape data can be stored in Azure and possibly even the entire VTS replaced due to proximity. Further in this blog, we will expand on this scenario in greater detail.
Replacing or Optimizing the Mainframe Virtual Tape Storage (VTS) in Azure
Below is an overview of the steps involved for directing mainframe VTS to Azure. The solution for each client may vary slightly based on the use case and products selected. Below is an overview of the Mainframe Tape to Azure configuration:

Install Software Driven Virtual Tape Solution
The cloud VTS software is a z/OS started task that sends mainframe data directly to Azure Blob Storage. The data is sent over in an encrypted manner to Azure Blob storage.

Create Azure Blob Storage Target
Azure blob storage instance is created and defined within the tape solution software as the target for the selected tape volume’s storage.

Back Up to and Recalling Data from the Mainframe
Mainframe Data is backed up to Azure with the help of a batch job using the corresponding backup utility. When the batch job is complete, the backup of the specified files will be on Azure blob storage in the defined location.
The process for recalling the files from Azure to the Mainframe is like backing up the data on to Azure. When a job requests for a tape that is on azure, the backup utility will automatically restore it from Azure.
Utilizing Tape Data Stored in Azure Blob Storage
Once the data is sent to Azure Blob Storage, it can be left to meet long-term retention requirements or converted for further use by Azure Services (including AI/ML use cases) depending on the solution chosen to back up data to Azure. For usage in Azure, the data would need to be converted to ASCII format.

Leveraging Data and AI Services with Ensono Stacks
The Ensono Stacks Data Platform delivers a modern Lakehouse solution, based upon the medallion architecture, with Bronze, Silver and Gold layers for various stages of data preparation. The platform utilizes tools including Azure Data Factory for data ingestion and orchestration, Databricks for data processing and Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 for data lake storage. It provides a foundation for data analytics and reporting through Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.
Key elements of the solution include:
Infrastructure as code (IaC) for all infrastructure components (Terraform).
Deployment pipelines to enable CI/CD and DataOps for the platform and all data workloads.
Data ingest pipelines that transfer data from a source into the landing (Bronze) data lake zone.
Data processing pipelines performing data transformations from Bronze to Silver and Silver to Gold layers.
The solution utilizes the Stacks Data Python library, which offers a suite of utilities to support:
Data transformations using PySpark.
Frameworks for data quality validations and automated testing.
The Datastacks CLI – a tool enabling developers to quickly generate new data workloads.

The deployed platform can integrate with Microsoft Fabric to provide a suite of analytics tools and capabilities. The solution is designed to be deployed within a secure private network – for details see infrastructure and networking.

Azure Landing Zone Accelerator for AVS – Public IP at the NSX Edge
Egress/Ingress natively from Azure VMware Solution via NSX-T or an NVA
This option enables Azure VMware Solution private cloud to directly consume and apply public network addresses in NSX-T Data Center for various connections:
Outbound SNAT
Inbound DNAT
Load balancing using VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer and other third-party Network Virtual Appliances.
Terminate VPN connections directly in NSX.
Network Architecture
This scenario is ideal if:
You must use the native NSX-T Data Center platform, so you need a PaaS deployment for Azure VMware Solution.
You need a bring-your-own-license (BYOL) NVA within Azure VMware Solution for traffic inspection.
You might or might not already have ExpressRoute connectivity between on-premises datacenters and Azure.
You need inbound HTTP/S or L4 services.
Note: Traffic from Azure VMware Solution to Azure Virtual Network, to the internet, and to on-premises data centers is routed through the NSX-T Data Center Tier-0/Tier-1 gateways or through Network Virtual Appliances (NVAs).
Azure VMware Solution Components
Tier-0 Gateway
Deployed during AVS deployment.
Establishes a BGP connection with the physical data center switches.
No need for additional configuration or modifications.
Tier-1 Gateway
One Tier-1 gateway is deployed alongside AVS.
It has a logical connection back to the Tier-0 gateway.
Public IP addresses are assigned here.
Can function as a North/South firewall.
Third-Party Firewall
Can replace the Tier-1 gateway as the North/South firewall.
Licensing is not included with AVS and appliance lifecycle are the customer’s responsibility.
Public IPs remain on the Tier-1 gateways.
Introduces additional complexity to the design.
East-West Firewall
Whether using Tier-1 or a third-party NVA, the NSX Distributed Firewall can still be used for East/West traffic.
Implement this scenario with:
An NSX distributed firewall (DFW), or an NVA behind tier-1 in Azure VMware Solution.
Application Gateway to provide L7 load balancing.
L4 DNAT using Azure Firewall.
Internet breakout from Azure VMware Solution.
Considerations
To enable internet access via the Azure portal, note that an outbound IP address may vary and is not fixed. Public IP addresses are external to the Network Virtual Appliance (NVA). Within the Azure VMware Solution, the NVA retains private IP addresses and does not assign the outbound public IP address.
What you will learn from this video:
Internet traffic for AVS workloads will natively egress out of AVS.
Native Azure resources maintain a separate connection to the internet egress, and do not use AVS for internet connectivity.
Terminate VPNs directly to AVS
You can choose either a Tier-1 Gateway or a third-party NVA as your North/South firewall.
Regardless of whether you use a third-party NVA, your Public IP addresses will reside on the Tier-1 Gateway.
For East/West traffic, utilize the NSX Distributed Firewall.
For your AVS workload, you have the option to use third-party load balancers or the NSX Advanced Load Balancer for handling ingress traffic.

So, I have been using this spreadsheet since 2014 and have always upgraded it to stay current. I had a file in Jan 2024 that I added data to and saved. Last month (Apr), I opened the file to add new data as I always have, and all my charts were gone. I’ve searched and cannot fight how these charts were deleted. It was not me. I’ve looked for fixes and there is little to no similar issue to mine unless my search was weak.
I’m looking for ideas, and while I am not a computer engineer, I know Excel and lots more. I already tried the options, checkmark solution.

Dynamic group based on user last login date
Hi Everyone
I would like to know if it possible to create a dynamic group based on user last login date and if they have an E1 license, I have the E1 check sorted but I can’t see a way to only add users based off the last interactive login date, in this case a 2 week rolling period. I want to do this so we can dynamically give/reclaim users M365 apps for enterprise licenses as we not have enough for all of our staff.
It’s a shame it’s not part of the pre filled properties to choose from as I thought this would be a common use case.

Is there a way to count items from the second sheet on my 1st sheet?
Hi! I’m a recruiter for a staffing firm and we have a new client tracker that is comprised of two sheets. The first sheet has the recruiter’s name and their total clients and then the second sheet lists each individual client name in each single cell. I’m curious if there is a formula I can enter in the cells on sheet one by each recruiters name that will be able to automatically add the total amount of clients listed in sheet two. screen clips for reference:

What’s new in Viva Insights – April 2024
New Admin center page for admins
We’ve launched a new Admin center page for Viva Insights admins. The new Admin center will show admins key metrics of product success, such as deployment and usage, and suggested actions to improve user adoption, enablement, and data quality.
The Admin center is available to all users who are assigned the Viva Insights Admin role, and can be accessed within the Advanced insights app.
With this update, admins gain a new “central hub” where they can view and manage key aspects of the product. For customers focused on deployment, for instance, the Admin center will show recommended deployment tasks. Or, for customers focused on adoption, they will have a view of enabled users and their levels of activity. Future versions of the Admin center will include data around the leader experience.
Key features:
Deployment task reminders. Admins will see a list of deployment activities and can kick off a task directly from the Admin center by selecting the respective action button. And, every four weeks, admins will be notified to refresh their organizational data to keep it fresh.
Track key deployment and enablement metrics. Keep track of current licenses and assigned managers.
Monitor product success by analyzing usage, data quality, and population metrics.
Group-based role assignment for managers
We’ve launched a new capability to simplify how to manage access to the Manager experience in Viva Insights. Now, Admins can use group-based role assignment to manage access to the Manager experience. This simplifies the role assignment process and allows customers to have more control over how they roll out the experience, increasing the enablement of the Managers.
Viva Insights Admins can access this experience through the Advanced insights portal.
Group-based role management allows Admins to assign the Manager role to an entire group through Microsoft Entra ID. Viva Insights ensures that the roles are assigned to all members of the group. Any new members who join the group are assigned the role automatically. When they leave the group, the role is removed. This role management process eliminates the need to manually upload a .csv file to grant or remove access to the manager role.
Attribute clones GA launch
Attribute clones allow analysts to duplicate their admin-uploaded attributes and customize the clone by modifying specific attribute values. This feature lets analysts update how they define their employee groups, ensuring their attribute data reflects the state of their business and complements their specific analyses.
This feature will begin rolling out to all customers during the first week of May.
Here are just a few example scenarios for this feature:
Rename an attribute value
Combine multiple attribute values into a singular value.
Update the value of an attribute based on the value of some other attribute.
To get started cloning an attribute:
Go to the Data Quality tab in the left-hand navigation panel of the advanced insights app.
Or, you can access the feature using the attribute selection panel when creating a person or meeting query.
Select the vertical ellipses next to an existing attribute and select Clone Attribute.
Delegate access
With this new feature, managers can “delegate” access to their organization insights to other people within the company. By doing so, other people at the company such as the chief of staff or one of the manager’s direct reports would have the same access as the manager does to organization insights.
With this feature, the chosen delegate(s) is empowered to view the data and operationalize business decisions based on the data and insights, on the manager’s behalf.
Delegates can view organization insights, but they can’t see the manager’s personal insights.

New analyst homepage
We’re excited to launch the new advanced insights homepage for analysts. This makes the homepage more modern, actionable, and intuitive to navigate with the following features:
Task card
A Get started section prompts new users to create their first analysis or view the available analysis results. Pick up where you left off lets repeat users download the results of their query and also turn on auto-refresh.
Data freshness card
A Review data freshness card shows key information about the measured population, the last organization data upload date, and the latest date for collaboration data. This keeps the user aware about the quality of data before running the analysis.
Discover card
The Discover advanced insights card helps analysts discover new features and helps new users access onboarding content.

PDF’s, webpages and Excel files not saving as PDFs or XLS files
Some time in the past week, all my PDF docs and downloaded docs, whether from Outlook or Google Chrome, are now saving as .24 files with an Internet Explorer default. I used to have all PDFs opening in Edge, and they still do if opened from my files, but nothing is saving properly anymore unless I add .pdf or .xls to the end of a file name as I save. I was able to change the default for .mht and .mhtml back to Edge, but the default for the .24, only offers the option of IE and Notepad. Even so, nothing saves without the addition of .pdf or .xls as needed. I almost lost a huge Excel file yesterday when it saved to IE, and then had no way to open. I had to rebuild the whole thing. Not a huge deal, but annoying. Any ideas?
