data validation allowing invalid values (list, source list have blank cells)
Hello!
I am trying to use data validation using a named range (list validation).
The source range is a large range (5000 rows) and most of those rows are blank.
But, the validation is allowing invalid values (values outside the list). If I force a value on the whole range (like a – instead of empty cells) it will work as it should and block invalid values, so I know for sure it’s related to the empty cells.
I tried to turn off ignore blank, but the issue persists.
I need the list with the empty cells because this is a list that will increase with time, so I can’t fix the list size.

Azure Synapse Store Procedure Error while updating
Hello,
I am new to Azure Synapse Analytics. I have an XLS file containing data and I want to upsert that data into an Azure Synapse dedicated SQL table.
I have created a stored procedure to upsert the data into the table.
I have used a lookup activity to load the XLS file and pass the JSON data to the stored procedure via a stored procedure activity.
It is working for inserting the data, but while updating, it is giving me the following error:
{
“errorCode”: “2402”,
“message”: “Execution failed against SQL Server. Please contact the SQL Server team if you need further support. SQL error number: 468. Error Message: Cannot resolve the collation conflict between “SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS” and “Latin1_General_BIN2″ in the equal to operation.”,

Retrieve the same list of “Active”Risky users (as in portal) using KQL with Log Analytics Workspace
We have enabled the Diagnostic Settings to capture Risky users in our Azure Entra ID.
I want to automate a daily Risky Users report using Logic Apps for the support teams. For this I need a query to show me the list of Risky Users as they are Azure Portal (Please refer attached Image). If someone has already a query for this can you please share which captures all Risky users with Risky Signins.
Overall I want to capture all Risky Users with Risky SignIns.
So far I am working on this query , but this is not showing every user as in the report.

Get rid of new section background options on modern pages
Hi,
on modern SharePoint-Online pages, does anybody know how to remove unwanted background options from the layout section?
We have a strict CI and custom themes and we don’t want the new backgrounds. Does anybody know a Power-Shell Cmdlet to do so?

The Innovation Challenge Hackathon May 28 – June 10
For the past few weeks 3,000 developers have been preparing for Azure certification exams in order to get invited to compete in the Innovation Challenge AI Hackathon. We are sponsoring organizations who work to address diversity in technology. We’re looking to give more people an opportunity to build on Azure and to open new doors for their careers. The capstone of their work towards getting Azure credentials is to get the experience of solving enterprise problems in an enterprise way—working as a team to solve real problems.
Participating organizations
We’ve sponsored training events and activities delivered by BITE-CON, Black Women In Artificial Intelligence, Blacks in Technology, Código Facilito, GenSpark, and Women in Cloud. In order to qualify for the hackathon, learners earn Azure credentials that validate their technical knowledge. Learners chose to either get a certification (AI 102, AZ 204, or DP 203) or to earn three of the AI Applied Skills credentials.
Teams coming tougher to solve for real world use cases
Learners with a qualifying credential will get an email from the organization that helped with their skilling. The email invitation will have the link to register, to create a hacker profile, and instructions for how to connect with a team around a project. Each team will choose one of our “Executive Challenges” to solve for. The Executive Challenges are selected based on input from our enterprise customers about the scenarios they see helping their businesses, solving problems or enabling new possibilities. We’re looking to open up the registration period on May 20 so that teams are ready to hack starting May 28. Final submissions are to be completed by June 10.
The HackBox Platform
This program is grounded in Microsoft’s culture—our accountability for inclusion, love of building things, learning from each other, and sharing our passion and optimism about technology. Hacking is a key way that we drive collaboration, creativity, and experimentation. We’re excited to be using the same platform for the Innovation Challenge that Microsoft uses for One Week, the world’s largest private hackathon. Thank you to our colleagues at The Garage for opening up HackBox to support this event. Hackers will use HackBox to come together as project teams of up to 5 members to build a working solution to one of the Executive Challenges. The platform also enables people to register as Advisors who make themselves available to coach and provide guidance. This gives the trainers and mentors from our sponsored organizations the ability to continue supporting their learners. Most importantly, HackBox enables everyone to come together to support each other as a community. You’ll be able to browse projects, other hacker’s profiles, discover related events, access resources, and get ideas.
Collaborate with your team on GitHub
Teams will build their projects by collaborating on GitHub, where software developers store, share, and work together with others to write code. Having a project in a code repository on GitHub also makes it available to the broader community so a team’s work can contribute to building capabilities for developers beyond the hackathon.
Building on Azure
Teams will be able to choose the tools and technologies they think are best suited to solve for their target use case. While solutions don’t have to be 100% built with Azure, in order to qualify for prizes they must depend on at least one of these Azure services in order to solve for their use case. How can I prevent window titles from overlapping in a Maui app with shell navigation and modals?
I’m developing a Maui app with shell navigation and modals, and I’m encountering an issue with overlapping window titles. When navigating from the main page to another page using shell navigation, a back button appears, causing the window title to shift slightly to the right. However, when I push a modal on that page, the window title on the modal page remains in its original position. This results in both window titles overlapping and creating a visually awkward effect.
I’ve attached images for reference
Any insights, code snippets, or suggestions would be immensely helpful. Thank you!

Can we integrate IFrame in teams bot
Hi Team,
We are using the teams bot for QNA purposes and we wanted to integrate the MS booking feature in the bot.
Currently, we have tried to use the embedded link of ms booking. But one security issue which we see is that MS booking page is opening a browser which is outside the bot.
In MS booking page we could see the IFrame also, can we integrate the iframe in Teams bot so that it will show as a popup in Teams itself so that it will not log in to outside the bot.

New Planner: Plans not staying pinned; Still no Outlook integration?!
It’s April 25th, I’ve been working with the new Planner in Teams for a couple of weeks now, and I have 2 main issues so far. These apply to the new Planner within Teams desktop for Windows:
Within the Planner app in Teams, my pinned plans are not staying pinned. Not just from one day to the next or when I close and restart Teams (which, TBH, would still be annoying), but they literally unpin themselves within minutes sometimes even when I’ve left Teams open. STILL NO BUILT-IN INTEGRATION WITH OUTLOOK! Flagged emails showing in My Tasks is basically USELESS to me, because Flagged Email Tasks can’t be moved to Planner plans, which is where we keep track of the majority of our work. I have coworkers who are married to email and get lots of work requests and to-dos from email that are related to my team’s Planner plans/projects. (Yes, there are ways to use Power Automate to get around this, but I am honestly still shocked that after all the talk we heard of “a unified experience with the new Planner,” this BASIC function is still not built-in from the get-go.)
If anyone has fixes for these, please let me know. Otherwise, Microsoft please help!

Enhancing admin capabilities with Microsoft Intune’s remote Microsoft 365 application diagnostics
By: Jon Lynn – Sr. Product Manager | Microsoft Intune – Troubleshooting
Have you ever had to troubleshoot an issue with a Microsoft 365 application on iOS or Android for a colleague or executive? It can be a time-consuming and difficult process, especially when the user has to manually collect the application diagnostics. But what if there was an easier way? Enter remote diagnostics for Microsoft 365 applications.
With this feature, admins can gather Intune app protection and Microsoft 365 application diagnostics on iOS and Android applications directly from the Microsoft Intune admin center. This means that instead of asking the user to collect diagnostics manually, admins can request diagnostics through the Troubleshooting pane. When the user opens their app, they’ll be prompted to upload diagnostics, which can then be accessed by Microsoft support for troubleshooting. Support for this feature is being implemented by application teams. It’s available now for Outlook Mobile and OneDrive with more rolling out soon.
For example, your CEO is experiencing a problem with Outlook Mobile. With this new capability, you can easily request diagnostics in the Troubleshooting pane. When the CEO opens their app, they will be prompted to upload diagnostics. Microsoft Outlook support can then access and troubleshoot using those diagnostics without further action from the CEO. If support needs additional diagnostics collected during troubleshooting, for the next seven days, the admin can re-request diagnostics and the CEO won’t be prompted. Diagnostics will be collected automatically upon the next app launch.
Enabling remote diagnostics for Microsoft 365 applications
Ready to give it a try? Navigate to the Intune admin center > Tenant administration > Device diagnostics. Then, ensure the option” Diagnostics for Microsoft 365 applications…” is set to Enabled.
Initiating an application diagnostic
Once remote diagnostics are enabled, follow these steps to initiate an application diagnostic in the Intune admin center:
Navigate to Troubleshooting + support
In Troubleshoot, search for, and select the user you want to initiate the diagnostic for.
Click on the “Checked in” apps in the App protection report.
Find the application you want to collect diagnostics for, click the 3-dot menu, and choose “Collect diagnostics”.
Note
To gather diagnostics, you need to have an Intune app protection policy applied to a user and application, and the user signed in to the application. See here for more information on setting up Intune app protection policies.
As of the 2404 release, not all apps have support to remotely collect diagnostics for Microsoft 365 applications, but all Microsoft apps with Intune APP can collect Intune diagnostics. Currently Outlook and OneDrive have support for application diagnostics and more applications are adding support very soon.
The diagnostic requests are stored in the Intune app protection policy, and the next time the application automatically requests a policy update (about every 30 minutes), the request to collect diagnostics will be executed on the device. When the request is processed, the user will see prompts to approve the collection and upload diagnostics. Once approved, diagnostics are collected and uploaded immediately. If diagnostics are requested again within 7 days, they are automatically approved without user re-approval. The user has 24 hours to open the app and upload diagnostics. After 24 hours, the request will expire, and a new request will need to be sent.
After diagnostics are uploaded, you can review the status of your request by refreshing the Intune app protection status where you initiated the diagnostic. Note that the status can take up to 15 minutes to update after diagnostics have been collected. You can also check for the diagnostics and status under the diagnostics tab in the Troubleshooting pane.
In conclusion, remote diagnostics for Microsoft 365 applications is a powerful tool for admins, allowing for faster and more efficient troubleshooting. Give it a try and see how it can streamline your support process.
Known issues and frequently asked questions
There are a few known issues and frequently asked questions to be aware of:
If you see a delay in the app protection report after you collect diagnostics, it may take 10-15 minutes for the status to change, even if you refresh the page.
You might see some diagnostics in the Diagnostics tab that say “Pending” in the app protection report because the status hasn’t caught up yet, but the diagnostics are there.
If you request diagnostics from an Android Microsoft application, it will collect Intune app protection diagnostics for all Microsoft apps that are being managed by the Intune App SDK on the device. For iOS, only the application being requested will have diagnostics uploaded.
Only Intune diagnostics can be downloaded from the Diagnostics tab. App specific diagnostics are only available for Microsoft support.
If the user has the application open when the diagnostic request has been received (approximately 30 minutes after requesting diagnostics), have the user close and open the app to initiate the diagnostic collection.
The application name for diagnostics in the Diagnostics tab for Android apps is “Company Portal” because the Company Portal is initiating the diagnostic collection.
Android: If your users don’t sign in with the Company Portal app, you won’t see the diagnostics in the Diagnostics tab after they upload them. We’re actively working on this issue. (Expected in late Q3CY2024)
iOS: You can’t download diagnostics. This will be fixed with an upcoming Intune App SDK release. Then, once apps have been updated with the latest SDK, Intune app protection diagnostics will show up in the Diagnostics tab. (Expected in late Q2CY2024).

Prompt Like a Pro: Get to decisions faster in Teams meetings with Microsoft Copilot
In this new normal of more flexible work, decision-making can be a much more complex and time-consuming process. With Microsoft Copilot in Teams, you can get to decisions quicker during and after your meetings – no matter where everyone is connecting from. In this “Prompt Like a Pro,” you’ll learn how to leverage prompts that will help visualize and evaluate each team member’s ideas as well as make decisions based on those ideas. Now you can avoid those dreaded meetings that could have been an email by unlocking faster and more inclusive decision-making in your meetings – all in seconds, with the power of Copilot in Teams.
Get an overview of your team’s ideas
The first step to making decisions during (and after) a meeting begins with identifying the ideas discussed and their benefits and drawbacks. Rather than trying to keep up with the conversations while taking notes or watching a recording later, you can focus on and engage in the discussing knowing that Copilot has you covered! In seconds, you can use prompts to organize all the ideas presented at any point during the meeting and have Copilot create a table that includes all the information related to the ideas you want to know. For example, you can use a prompt to ask Copilot: “Identify the pros and cons of each idea formatted as a table with 3 headers: ideas, pros, cons.”
By formatting into a table – you now have a side-by-side comparison making it easier to evaluate the ideas and add your thoughts to the discussion. This not only accelerates decision-making but also ensures that all ideas are considered before making your decision. In just a couple of clicks, you can easily copy and paste the table Copilot made to the meeting chat so your team can check it and give more feedback or ideas before the meeting ends. You can go even further, asking Copilot other questions* such as who suggested a specific idea, who disagreed/agreed with it and why, etc.
Create an implementation plan for your idea(s)
Once your team has aligned on an idea to move forward with, you can go a step further by asking Copilot to outline the steps to bring an idea to fruition. This helps you continue the momentum and get started with implementation faster. Just build on your original prompt with a follow-up like: “Identify the steps involved in implementing [idea].”
Copilot will use the discussion during the meeting about that specific idea and lay out a simple implementation plan if your team had discussed one. This prompt is crucial as it lays out a roadmap for action, detailing the necessary stages from inception to completion. It will help you assess the feasibility of an idea and to allocate resources effectively.
Generate additional ideas
And to end your meeting and decide on a path forward, you can even ask Copilot: “Based on what was discussed in the meeting, what idea would you recommend?” This prompt is best used when your meeting is wrapping up and most of your discussion is over. Copilot will then synthesize all the information brought up and suggest the most viable option, considering the pros, cons, and implementation strategies discussed. But feel free to try it out earlier in the meeting, it may help you add to the conversation if your team is getting stuck.
If your team clearly states that no decision has been made by the end of your meeting, Copilot will let you know when you use this prompt. Keep in mind, you can always ask Copilot these questions again after the meeting is over if you recorded or transcribed the meeting.
Accelerating your decision-making
Copilot isn’t just a tool; it’s your co-creator. It amplifies your team’s brilliance, streamlines decision-making, and transforms meetings into efficient, productive, and fulfilling uses of your time. By utilizing the prompts mentioned in this blog, and utilizing your own follow-up prompts to get specific results relevant to your conversation with Copilot in your Teams meetings, your meetings will no longer be interchangeable with an email. Instead, it encourages a more collaborative and efficient approach to decision-making, ensuring that the best ideas are not just heard but are also given the consideration they deserve. With Microsoft Copilot in Teams, you and your team will be able to take your work to the next level and achieve more in meetings – and beyond – faster and easier.

Implementing a functionality with GitHub Copilot for Visual Studio
The main benefit of using Generative AI in Visual Studio is that it enables you to type faster. It’s important to keep in mind that Copilot is not a compiler, it’s not magical, it is just an assistant. It’s still important to test the generated code thoroughly (in fact there isn’t even a guarantee that Copilot generated code will even compile!)
In our new video, my colleague Gwyn demonstrates how a new feature can be implemented by prompting Copilot in an inline dialog.
The example
First Gwyn starts by placing the cursor in an existing method belonging to a web API. The issue here is that the query is case-sensitive. So if the user enters the country Peru, the query works fine. But if they enter peru instead, the query fails. That is an issue because URLs are often considered case-insensitive (in fact it depends on the server…).
To fix this, Gwyn needs some code converting the user input into title case, in other words, the first letter should be capitalized.
Once the code is generated, Gwyn verifies that it looks correct, and when satisfied she can then test the application and make sure everything works as expected.
What does Copilot work best with?
You may wonder what kind of code GitHub Copilot can generate. The answer is of course dependent on the training it received. It will perform great with “popular” languages such as .NET, JavaScript, Python, Java and many more. But with more confidential languages (COBOL…), languages that are not widely available in public repositories, that can prove more difficult. As always with a new tool, the best is to try it out with reasonable expectations, and see how it performs. It’s probably similar to what happens when you use a search engine, I can imagine it’s quite complex to get answers about COBOL there too…
