Application Insights for Azure Logic Apps (Standard) – Correlation Tracking Update
In this blog post we are going to discuss a new feature flag that will modify the default behavior of passing correlation between Azure services and Logic Apps when tracking data using Application Insights v2. The feature allows you to control the Operation Id that gets emitted to Application Insights V2. The default behavior is to store the workflow’s Run Id in the operation_id field. The impact of this default behavior is that it can lead to additional complexity when trying to correlate events across other services like API Management and Azure Functions.
Note: To learn more about Application Insights (V2), please check out the following blog post: Application Insights Enhancements for Azure Logic Apps (Standard) reaches General Availability (microsoft.com)
The following image depicts the default behavior when an API subsequently calls a Logic App workflow which subsequently calls a Function App.
If you subsequently try to view the Application Map in Application Insights, you will see that the correlation is disconnected.
To address the need of propagating correlation values and creating linkages, we have enabled a feature flag that will allow you to override the default behavior and instead use an operation_id of the calling service. The following image illustrates the desired outcome that we are interested in. The remainder of this post will be dedicated to setting this up correctly.
To ensure that the correlation between Azure API Management and Azure Logic Apps lines up correctly, it is advisable to enable the W3C Correlation protocol in the API Management – API.
You will also need to enable the “Runtime.ApplicationInsights.PreserveIncomingOperationId“: “true” in the host.json file of your Logic App. You can enable this in VS Code or by using Kudu in Azure Portal. Save these new settings and make sure that your Logic App is restarted. This feature flag is disabled by default, meaning if you don’t enable it, your logging will use the default behavior as above.
Note: In the configuration below, we have set “Runtime.ApplicationInsightTelemetryVersion“: “v2”. This enables v2 of our Application Insights functionality. If you do not have v2 enabled, there is no need to set he PreserveIncomingOperationId as this is only available in v2.
{
“version”: “2.0”,
“extensionBundle”: {
“id”: “Microsoft.Azure.Functions.ExtensionBundle.Workflows”,
“version”: ” [1, 2.00) “
},
“extensions”: {
“workflow”: {
“Settings”: {
“Runtime.ApplicationInsightTelemetryVersion”: “v2”,
“Runtime.ApplicationInsights.PreserveIncomingOperationId”: “true”
}
}
}
}
When we rerun our transaction using the new feature flag, we can see that we have a consistent operation_id across our API, workflows and Function App.
This will allow the Application Map to render properly.
If you are using Application Insights v2 in Azure Logic Apps, it is recommended that you enable this feature so that you don’t have breakages in the Application Map functionality. However, this setting is opt-in so that we don’t impact any existing deployments of Logic Apps and Application Insights logging.

Restrict copilot access files
Microsoft 365 Copilot is available in many other languages, so for many organizations it is now interesting to discover the possibilities. Through various articles I have described the risks in the field of security, privacy and compliance in combination with Copilot. Many organizations and partners have approached me on how to keep Copilot in check when hunting for content. I have made a document for this including 3 videos that explain step by step in Dutch and English how to approach this. Since it has been quite a bit of research, I ask for a contribution so that I, as a freelancer, can create more content for SME organizations that do not have the knowledge to apply this and help Microsoft partners who have no experience with this, without spending hours and days scouring the internet.

Creating tasks in excell online
Hi, I create a task on an online excel sheet by adding a note and then adding “@” user. I tell it to assign the task to this person (me) an I get an email saying I’ve assigned myself a task.
The question is where is the task?
I can’t find it anywhere, I’ve checked: Outlook, Office then Planner, Teams then Planner.
I want to be able to track tasks in a spreadsheet but leverage the use of tasks.

Feedback item about shared accounts and meetings
Hi,
I just created this feedback item Create a teams meeting from a organisational account and assign the organiser that is going to present the meeting · Community (microsoft.com)
What I hear a lot is that organisations have a shared account where they create there meetings/events/webinars etc. But when they do this they have no possibility to view the presence of people or the recording which is saved in the organisers OneDrive and more.
So ideally you want this resource account to select a presenter who gets the Organiser role so he can prepare everything have the recording and more. The Co-organiser is just not enough.
thanks for voting.

IPv6 to IPv4 workload communication
As organizations begin to convert new and existing IPv4 workloads to IPv6, they will need to manage communications between these different IP versions. This article provides an overview of three common Azure workload scenarios organizations need to plan for, and how to execute by leveraging the dual-stack nature of Azure networks.
Azure IPv6 enabled services are deployed in a dual-stack configuration that allows them to maintain both IPv4 addresses and IPv6 addresses. These IPv4 do not need to be unique inside of the private network. For more information on reusing IPv4 addresses, see Conceptual planning for IPv6 networking – Azure Architecture Center | Microsoft Learn
You can also use these patterns in reverse to enable IPv4 to IPv6 communication, but depending on your environment you may have additional considerations.
IPv6 Azure workloads to IPv4 Azure workloads
In this scenario, the organization has an application that uses IPv6 and is hosted on Azure virtual machines. These VMs are deployed in Virtual Network A. This application may be receiving queries from IoT devices over the public internet or servicing another sort of IPv6 clients.
The application in Virtual Network A needs to be able to connect to another existing application in order to send data back to its clients. This other application is running on IPv4, and is deployed in Virtual Network B.
These networks can be directly peered together or use a hub and spoke traffic pattern as defined in Hub-spoke network topology in Azure – Azure Architecture Center | Microsoft Learn.
Because the Azure VM workload is dual stacked, it already has a private IPv4 address available. When it needs to communicate to Virtual Network B, it will use its IPv4 network interface to send the traffic to the IPv4 virtual machine directly over the Microsoft backbone infrastructure.
There is no need to set up network address translation or use any synthetic communication between resources, as normal peering provides this function.
The IP addresses assigned to Virtual Network A do not need to be globally unique in the environment. However, they do need to be unique to any networks peered with Virtual Network A, such as Virtual Network B. They also need to be unique to any other networks that need to communicate with Virtual Network A without using NATing.
IPv6 Azure workloads to IPv4 on-prem workloads
In this scenario, the organization has an IPv6 workload operating in Azure with a similar configuration to the one in the previous scenario. However, in this scenario it also has a backend service in Subnet B of Virtual Network A that calls to a data source operating in the corporate data center.
Virtual Network A is peered to a hub that contains a virtual network gateway connecting to the data center.
The backend service is IPv4 only. This virtual machine has no IPv6 addresses and no network address translation.
Like in the previous scenario, the backend service in Subnet B can use its IPv4 network interface to communicate to the on-prem data source. It can continue to use its IPv6 interface to communicate with the application in Subnet A. The gateway can accept the IPv4 or IPv6 address traffic without any translation needed, and connect the backend to the OnPrem Network C.
Return traffic, or traffic originating from the IPv4 service in the data center, can flow to the IPv4 address assigned to the service in Subnet B. It is important to note in this flow, only Subnet B needs to be unique for Network C to be able to communicate with it. Subnet A could contain non-routable IPv4 addresses and reuse the addresses elsewhere in the environment.
IPv6 on-prem workloads to IPv4 Azure workloads
Unlike the previous scenarios, this scenario starts with an application operating in the on-premises network space. This application is hosted on a server that is IPv6 only, and it needs to make a call to a data source hosted on a server in Azure that is configured only to use IPv4.
The diagram below shows the desired flow as dotted lines.
There are a few different solutions available to address this communication flow. The first option you should consider is updating your Azure server or services to operate in a dual-stack configuration. This is a direct process of adding new IP space and a new interface, and won’t disrupt the existing IPv4 traffic. This will enable more communication patterns for your workloads, without having to maintain new technologies.
However, if you cannot update the service you can instead use third-party NAT64 services to NAT traffic between the two IP versions.
Option 1: Update the Azure server to be dual-stack
Depending on your workload, the simplest solution is to configure a specific virtual machine to be dual-stack. By assigning an IPv6 address range to the virtual network and subnet, you can then create a new network interface to the Azure virtual machine. This allows the target server to begin receiving the traffic from the data center.
This dual-stack configuration does not disrupt the application’s existing IPv4 communication to other servers or services in its virtual network.
To support this scenario, an organization must establish a connection between Network C and the Azure networks using ExpressRoute. ExpressRoute Circuits and ExpressRoute gateways allow for IPv6 traffic, but VPN gateways do not. If you are using a third party VPN provider to connect Azure to Network C, refer to your vendor’s documentation for what kinds of traffic are supported.
Option 2: Configure NAT64 solutions in on-premises networks
If you are not able to dual-stack the servers in Azure, you can investigate NAT64 service implementation as part of your on-prem networks. In this scenario, the NAT64 service is deployed in Network C. This enables address translation to IPv4 from the IPv6 device.
The IPv6 virtual machine initiating the connection imbeds the IPv4 address it wishes to communicate with inside of an IPv4 address with a specific well known prefix (64:ff9b::/96). The NAT64 gateway receives the traffic, and then strips out the well-known address. It is then left with a viable IPv4 address it can use to reach the IPv4 target.
The IPv4 service then responds to the gateway’s IPv4 address, where the gateway then re-packages the IPv4 address into the IPv6 packet with the same prefix.
This has the advantage of not explicitly needing an IPv6 enabled gateway in Azure, as the traffic is converted to IPv4 before entering the Azure space.
While you can deploy the NAT64 gateway in different locations in your network topology through the use of NVAs or virtual appliances, keeping the NATing close to the IPv6 services on-prem can simplify the routing pattern by keeping it from changing IP versions after crossing the connection to Azure.

Create a new workbook with each new row
Hello All,
I’m looking to link and create a new Excel workbook whenever I create a new row.
For example;
Whenever I create a new row I want excel to make a new workbook that is saved on the internal server.
The name of this workbook will need to contain the information in cells D & E.
A hyperlink on cell C will need to open this workbook.
Reason for this seperate workbook is so that information on a project can be stored in this workbook & the original overview file can be kept clean with only the essential information.
I can understand that this question might be unclear. If you need any more info, please feel free to ask!
Already thanks for the help
Kind regards,
Bram

Latest Word (16.84) ignores rules and a font it’s accepted before
The latest version of Word for Mac (Office Home & Business 2021) was recently updated – and a font that I’ve installed and that all other apps I have recognize, and that Word had recognized before, is suddenly not recognized by Word, in its list of fonts. How can this be? The font is clearly installed properly, is recognized by other apps that use fonts, and was recognized by Word in the previous version I used. How can it suddenly stop being recognized?
I use rules a lot – lines across the page – that are inserted by hitting three consecutive hyphens and then a return. This same file used many such rules – but the same latest version of Word suddenly has eliminated all those rules when I open the file. How can is suddenly stop recognizing those lines (rules)?
Shouldn’t new versions of Word be tested before released? Doesn’t Microsoft have quality control – that would make sure all things that used to work continue to work when they release a new version?
As a prior software developer, this is hard for me to understand – how such a widely held app like Word for the Mac would not go through testing before a new version is released.

SharePoint List JSON Formatting – MS Chat link
In SharePoint, when you hover over or click a profile image, it opens the contact details with option to “Start Chat” — is there a way to create this link in JSON? Or a way to click a link and open MS Teams directly to chat with the person?
I’m currently using the following, which works but it first opens Teams on the current browser tab and user has to select either open on client or continue on the web:
{
“elmType”: “a”,
“attributes”: {
“iconName”: “Chat”,
“href”: “=’https://teams.microsoft.com/l/chat/0/0?users=’ + [$ContactPersonEmail]”,
“title”: “=’Chat with ‘ + [$FirstName] + ‘ in Teams'”,
“class”: “ms-fontColor-neutralPrimary ms-fontColor-themePrimary–hover”
},
“style”: {
“text-decoration”: “none”
}
}
I tried the following but neither worked:
“href”:”=’msteams://teams.microsoft.com/l/chat/0/0?users=’ + [$ContactPersonEmail]”
“href”: “=’sip:’ + [$ContactPersonEmail]”
