Public preview: Expanding passkey support in Microsoft Entra ID
We really, really want to eliminate passwords. There’s really nothing anyone can do to make them better. As more users have adopted multifactor authentication (MFA), attackers have increased their use of Adversary-in-the-Middle (AitM) phishing and social engineering attacks, which trick people into revealing their credentials.
How can we defeat these attacks while making safe sign-in even easier? Passkeys!
A passkey is a strong, phishing-resistant authentication method you can use to sign in to any internet resource that supports the W3C WebAuthN standard. Passkeys represent the continuing evolution of the FIDO2 standard, which should be familiar to anyone who’s followed or joined the passwordless movement. We already support signing into Entra ID using a passkey hosted on a hardware security key and today, we’re delighted to announce additional support for passkeys. Specifically, we’re adding support for device-bound passkeys in the Microsoft Authenticator app on iOS and Android for customers with the strictest security requirements.
Before we describe the new capabilities we’re adding to Microsoft Authenticator, let’s review the basics of passkeys.
Passkeys neutralize phishing attempts
Passkeys provide high security assurance by applying public-private key cryptography and requiring direct interaction with the user. As I detailed in a previous blog, passkeys benefit from “Verifier Impersonation Resistance”:
URL-specific. The provisioning process for passkeys records the relying party’s URL, so the passkey will only work for sites with that same URL.
Device-specific. The relying party will only grant access to the user if the passkey is synched, stored, or connected to the device from which they’re requesting access.
User-specific. The user must prove they’re physically present during authentication, usually by performing a gesture on the device from which they’re requesting access.
Together, these characteristics make passkeys almost impossible to phish.
You can host passkeys on dedicated hardware security keys, phones, tablets, and laptops
Users can host their passkeys on dedicated hardware security keys (such as FIDO2 security keys) or on user devices such as phones, tablets, or PCs. Windows 10/11, iOS 17, and Android 14 are examples of user device platforms that support passkeys. Each supports signing in with a passkey hosted directly on the user device itself or by connecting to a nearby user device or security key that hosts the passkey, such as a mobile device within Bluetooth range, an NFC-enabled security key, or a USB security key plugged into the user device.
If your organization issues dedicated hardware security keys, you sign-in by inserting your key into the USB port or tapping it to the NFC scanner and perform the PIN or biometric verification it requires.
To sign-in using a passkey on a user device, simply scan your face or fingerprint with your device or enter your device PIN. It’s also simple to sign-in to an application on a separate device, such as a new phone or a PC. Point the camera of the device hosting your passkey at the QR code displayed on the separate device and use your passkey along with your biometric or PIN to sign in. You may have already followed this process by using an Android or iPhone to sign into services such as Amazon.com.
Passkeys may be device-bound or syncable
Depending on the scenario, you may prefer a device-bound passkey or a syncable passkey.
A device-bound passkey, as the name suggests, never leaves the device to which it’s issued. If you sign-in using a security key or Windows Hello, you’re using a device-bound passkey. By definition, you can’t back up or restore a device-bound passkey because during these operations the passkey would leave the hardware element. This restriction is important for organizations that must, sometimes by law, protect passkeys from any security vulnerabilities that could arise during synchronization and recovery.
While they offer strong security, dedicated hardware keys can be expensive to issue and manage. If you lose, replace, or destroy the dedicated device, you must provision a brand-new passkey on a new device. And since device-bound passkeys aren’t portable or recoverable, they increase friction for people trying to move away from passwords. To simplify the experience for users who don’t operate in highly regulated environments, the industry introduced support for syncable passkeys. You can back up and recover a syncable passkey, which makes it possible to share the same passkey between devices or to restore it if you lose or upgrade your device—there’s no need to provision a new one.
Syncable passkeys on user client devices are easy to use, easy to manage, and offer high security
Syncable passkeys on user devices are exciting because they address many of the toughest usability and recoverability challenges that have confronted organizations trying to move to passwordless, phishing-resistant authentication. Hosting the passkey on the user’s device means organizations don’t have to issue or manage a separate device, and syncing it among the user’s client devices and the cloud massively reduces the expense of recovering and reissuing device-bound keys. And on top of all this, replacing passwords with passkeys thwarts more than 99% of identity attacks.
We expect this combination of benefits will make syncable passkeys the best option for the vast majority of users and organizations. Android and iOS devices can host syncable passkeys today, and we’re working to add support in Windows by this fall. Our roadmap for 2024 includes support for both device-bound and syncable passkeys in Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft consumer accounts. Stay tuned for further announcements later this year.
Device-bound passkeys in Microsoft Authenticator
Industry or governmental regulation, or other highly strict security policies, require that some enterprises and government agencies use device-bound passkeys for signing in to Microsoft Entra. This small fraction of organizations has strict requirements governing the recovery of lost credentials and for preventing employees from sharing credentials with anyone else. Nonetheless, these organizations also want the usability, manageability, and deployment benefits of storing passkeys on user-client devices such as mobile phones.
Advantages of hosting passkeys on a user device:
Organizations don’t have to provision dedicated hardware.
Users are less likely to lose track of their daily computing device.
It’s easy to sign in with a passkey hosted on a user device.
We know that device-bound keys are a must-have for many of our largest, most regulated and most security conscious customers. That’s why we’ve been collaborating with these customers, along with the broader FIDO community, to provide additional options. As part of this work, we’re adding support for device-bound passkeys in the Microsoft Authenticator app on iOS and Android. Instead of provisioning separate devices, high-security organizations can now configure Entra ID to let employees sign-in using their existing phone and their device-bound passkey. Users get a familiar phone interface, including biometrics or local lockscreen PIN or password, while their organizations meet strict security requirements because users can’t sync, share, or recover any device-bound passkey hosted in Microsoft Authenticator.
Organizations that use device-bound passkeys trade the benefit of large investments that vendors such as Google (see related article) and Apple (see related article) have made in creating high-security, self-service passkey recovery models for the benefit of meeting strict regulatory or security requirements. They become responsible for sharing and recovering device-bound passkeys, including those hosted in Microsoft Authenticator.
For detailed guidance on how to get started with device-bound passkeys hosted in Microsoft Authenticator, please refer to our documentation.
Microsoft’s commitment to passwordless authentication
Microsoft is continuing to enhance our support for passkey in products such as Entra, Windows, and Microsoft accounts. Please continue to send us feedback, so we can help you eliminate passwords from your environment forever.

Deployment Considerations for Windows ZTDNS Client
This document goes over what considerations administrators should keep in mind when evaluating how ZTDNS fits into their Zero Trust deployment model. For more information about what ZTDNS is, see this feature announcement.
Zero Trust DNS (ZTDNS) is a powerful Windows feature that enables an administrator to lock down Windows outbound IP-based traffic to endpoints approved by a Protective DNS service. However, there is no such thing as a Zero Trust silver bullet or “Zero Trust on” button.
This post will help administrators understand what to consider when deploying ZTDNS:
What things ZTDNS will complicate (including alternative solutions to solving those same scenarios without violating Zero Trust principles)
What will bypass ZTDNS (defining what scenarios are out of scope for ZTDNS today)
What things ZTDNS will complicate
ZTDNS, as a Zero Trust architecture enabling feature, breaks insecure networking features in ways that may not be immediately obvious. By blocking all outbound network traffic that cannot be associated with a domain name, there are many networking protocols that simply cannot function, including (but certainly not limited to) mDNS, LLMNR, NetBIOS Name Resolution, UPnP, and WebRTC.
Some of the uses cases for these protocols can be unblocked by defining narrow IP subnet exceptions, such as allowing the well-defined IP ranges required for a vendor’s software. Others cannot know their destination IP addresses in advance and will never work unless ZTDNS is deactivated or greatly crippled with broad IP subnet exceptions.
Even when creating IP address exceptions for ZTDNS, there are two major considerations to keep in mind:
IP address exceptions should be used only when strictly necessary to prevent unmanageably long lists of exceptions, and
Only IP addresses from the globally-unique ranges should be permitted to prevent Windows from being vulnerable to attacks from other hosts using same addresses on different networks
Note: the latter can be addressed by deploying IPv6 and creating manual IP addresses exceptions for IPv6 ULA and GUA addresses, where each address type is appropriate (note that extra care must be taken with ULA address allocation to not use predictable ranges).
This page will go over several common real-world scenarios ZTDNS will impact and, if possible, how administrators can address the original need without IP address exceptions.
Printing
Using a secure printer management service such as Microsoft’s Universal Print enables enterprise administrators to configure printers securely through trusted device management. Printer endpoints are then resolved through ZTDNS instead of being discovered using mDNS, which ZTDNS would block. More information about the endpoints Universal Print uses can be found on this page.
File shares
Trying to discover file shares on the network, such as using the Network section of Windows Explorer, will be blocked by ZTDNS. However, if the Protective DNS servers ZTDNS uses are also local network DNS servers, then file shares on the local network can be discovered and used just like any other approved domain name.
Additionally, using file hosting that can be reached at DNS-discovered endpoints, such as SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, or Azure Files, will ensure no ZTDNS workarounds are needed. This also ensures that the network connection Windows 11 uses to discover and connect to the file share is not a factor in the connection’s trust in line with Zero Trust principles.
Windows Update
Windows Update will continue to function when ZTDNS is activated (so long as its required domain names are resolved by the ZTDNS-configured Protective DNS service). However, enterprises may notice a sudden increase in traffic to Windows Update services because ZTDNS will block the local network peer-to-peer traffic Windows uses to share already-downloaded updates between devices on the same network.
Enterprises should consider using MCC (in preview for enterprises) or WSUS to reduce Windows Update traffic volume when ZTDNS prevents the peer-to-peer sharing of Windows updates.
Teleconferencing apps
Programs such as Teams, Webex, Zoom, Discord, Slack, and others use protocols such as WebRTC to stream their video calls. WebRTC in turn uses IP addresses discovered through STUN and TURN. This means that ZTDNS will end up blocking WebRTC because the IP addresses were not discovered through DNS queries.
Most vendors will disclose the IP address subnets they require for functionality to inform customers about needed firewall exceptions (such as these for Microsoft Office products). Such vendor-required IP ranges should be configured as IP exceptions in ZTDNS when resolving the required domain names is not sufficient.
Media streaming
Some forms of media streaming, such as streaming from online services through a browser, will usually work when ZTDNS is active because it will use domain names to look up the destination. Other media streaming scenarios that use non-DNS endpoint discovery will end up being blocked by ZTDNS, especially local network media discovery and streaming such as sharing music libraries or streaming video from a home media server. Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is one of many standards used for this that will not work when ZTDNS is active.
Casting to wireless displays
Browsers and other apps may wish to discover castable wireless displays, but this will not work when ZTDNS is active. Consider using physical connections to the intended display instead.
Captive portals
Most captive portals today continue to rely on plain-text DNS query interception to redirect clients to a captive portal page. When ZTDNS is active, this will never work because Windows 11 will never emit plain-text DNS traffic. While there is a standard that allows networks to advertise their captive portal properties in a structured manner (not supported in Windows), this is not compatible with the ZTDNS approach today because the network would not allow the ZTDNS client to issue a query for the captive portal URI.
In the ZTDNS private preview, navigating captive portals is an unsupported scenario.
Browsers using their own DNS clients
Most browsers can use their own encrypted DNS clients instead of using the operating system’s DNS APIs. When a browser attempts to do this on Windows 11 when ZTDNS is active, it will either fail to resolve any names, or fail to send traffic to any resolved IP addresses (depending on whether ZTDNS permits outbound traffic to the encrypted DNS server in the first place).
Customers should use the management policy provided by their browser vendor to disable the use of encrypted DNS within the browser itself, such as this Edge policy. This is generally good practice on managed devices anyway because other Windows mechanisms also expect apps to use the system DNS resolver, such as the NRPT.
Apps with hard-coded or non-DNS-discovered IP addresses
It is likely that administrators will find one or more applications in their production environment relying on hard-coded IP addresses or non-DNS name resolution mechanisms. Administrators should do a controlled roll out of ZTDNS by first enabling audit mode; this will allow discovery of apps that would break if ZTDNS were enforcing outbound blocks in the logs without actually breaking employee productivity.
Note: even when enforcement is off, ZTDNS will still disrupt any experience that directly relies on use of non-DNS name protocols by the Windows DNS client, specifically mDNS, LLMNR, and NetBIOS name resolution. This is because when ZTDNS audit mode is on, all name queries need to be sent to the Protective DNS service to test if it would have permitted the name. Use of DNS or any other name resolution protocol by other apps, such as browsers using DNS over HTTPS, will not be blocked in audit mode.
What can bypass ZTDNS
While there are features and functionality that ZTDNS will break, there is also networking functionality which can bypass ZTDNS enforcement, either because ZTDNS is still in preview and being worked on, or because of the inherent nature of the other feature.
VPN or SASE/SSE tunnels
Any form of tunneling technology, such as VPNs and SASE/SSE solutions, will work when ZTDNS is active so long as the gateway in question is looked up by allowed domain name or the IP address is manually permitted by ZTDNS. However, once that occurs, all traffic sent over the tunnel will appear to be associated with the domain name or the exception name for the gateway’s IP address, not the domain name the app sending traffic resolved for any given traffic flow through the tunnel.
Administrators should be aware of this when they deploy ZTDNS and network tunnels at the same time and ensure they conduct ZTDNS-like domain name auditing at the tunnel’s exit node in order to maintain similar lockdown-by-domain-name functionality.
Hyper-V VMs, including WSL
Any virtualization that implements its own networking stack, and therefore bypassing the Windows Filtering Platform functionality of the host TCP/IP stack, will bypass ZTDNS enforcement. Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) is a high-profile example of an enterprise experience that will bypass ZTDNS enforcement in the Windows Insider ZTDNS preview.
Stack bypass technologies
Any other technology that bypasses the Windows 11 host networking stack, such as XDP or DPDK, will bypass ZTDNS and any other Windows feature that enforces traffic through Windows Filtering Platform.
Local administrators
Enterprise administrators should consider whether their employees need to have administrative privilege on their Windows devices. Any administrator can deactivate ZTDNS enforcement as easily as activate it, add ZTDNS exceptions for malicious IP addresses, or even install and run software with administrative privileges which may (unbeknownst to the human user) do these things. Therefore, deploying ZTDNS to Windows 11 machines in an enterprise environment which have regular human users with administrator privileges is unsupported. The intention is for the device to be fully managed through MDM, with local controls present for debugging purposes only, in line with Zero Trust principles (grant only the absolutely necessary access or permissions).

Announcing Zero Trust DNS Private Preview
In the modern world, useful network destinations are far more likely to be defined by long-lived domain names than long-lived IP addresses. However, enforcement of domain name boundaries (such as blocking traffic associated with a forbidden domain name) has always been problematic since it requires breaking encryption or relying on unreliable plain-text signals such as DNS over port 53 inspection or SNI inspection.
To support Zero Trust deployments trying to lock down devices to only access approved network destinations, we are announcing the development of Zero Trust DNS (ZTDNS) in a future version of Windows. ZTDNS was designed to be interoperable by using network protocols from open standards to satisfy Zero Trust requirements such as those found in OMB M-22-09 and NIST SP 800-207. ZTDNS will be helpful to any administrator trying to use domain names as a strong identifier of network traffic.
ZTDNS integrates the Windows DNS client and the Windows Filtering Platform (WFP) to enable this domain-name-based lockdown. First, Windows is provisioned with a set of DoH or DoT capable Protective DNS servers; these are expected to only resolve allowed domain names. This provisioning may also contain a list of IP address subnets that should always be allowed (for endpoints without domain names), expected Protective DNS server certificate identities to properly validate the connection is to the expected server, or certificates to be used for client authentication.
Next, Windows will block all outbound IPv4 and IPv6 traffic except for the connections to the Protective DNS servers as well as the DHCP, DHCPv6, and NDP traffic needed to discover network connectivity information. Note that many options from these protocols will be ignored, such as RDNSS, as only the configured Protective DNS servers will be used.
Going forward, DNS responses from one of the Protective DNS servers that contain IP address resolutions will trigger outbound allow exceptions for those IP addresses. This ensures that applications and services that use the system DNS configuration will be allowed to connect to the resolved IP addresses. This is because the destination IP address will be approved and unblocked before the domain name resolutions are returned to the caller.
When applications and services try to send IPv4 or IPv6 traffic to an IP address that was not learned through ZTDNS (and is not on the manual exceptions list), the traffic will be blocked. This is not because ZTDNS tried to identify malicious or forbidden traffic to block, but because the traffic was not proven to be allowed. This makes ZTDNS a useful tool in the Zero Trust toolbelt: it assumes traffic is forbidden by default. This will allow administrators to define domain-name-based lockdown using policy-aware Protective DNS servers. Optionally, client certs can be used to provide policy-affecting client identities to the server rather than relying on client IP addresses, which are both not secure signals and not reliably stable for work-from-anywhere devices.
By using ZTDNS to augment their Zero Trust deployments, administrators can achieve name labeling of all outbound IPv4 and IPv6 traffic without relying on intercepting plain-text DNS traffic, engaging in an arms race to identify and block encrypted DNS traffic from apps or malware, inspecting the soon-to-be encrypted SNI, or relying on vendor-specific networking protocols. Instead, administrators can block all traffic whose associated domain name or named exception cannot be identified. This renders the use of hard-coded IP addresses or unapproved encrypted DNS servers irrelevant without having to introduce TLS termination and miss out on the security benefits of end-to-end encryption.
For DNS servers to be used as Protective DNS servers for ZTDNS lockdown, the minimum requirement is to support either DNS over HTTPS (DoH) or DNS over TLS (DoT), as ZTDNS will prevent the use of plain-text DNS by Windows. Optionally, use of mTLS on the encrypted DNS connections will allow Protective DNS to apply per-client resolution policies. In all cases, ZTDNS does not introduce any novel network protocols, which makes it a promising interoperable approach to domain-name-based lockdown.
ZTDNS is entering private preview, meaning it is not yet publicly available for testing. There will be another announcement once the ZTDNS client is available to Insiders. For now, there is additional information about considerations for deploying ZTDNS in a real-world environment in this blog post.

Why is My QuickBooks Desktop unable to open the company file?
Troubleshooting Solutions: QuickBooks Desktop unable to open the company file
When QuickBooks Desktop unable to open a company file, it can be frustrating and disruptive to your workflow. However, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve this issue:
1. Check File Location and Permissions: Ensure that the company file is stored in a location where QuickBooks can access it. Also, verify that you have the necessary permissions to open the file. If the file is on a network drive, ensure that the network connection is stable.
2. Use QuickBooks File Doctor: QuickBooks File Doctor is a built-in tool designed to troubleshoot company file issues. Download and run the tool to diagnose and repair common file-related problems automatically.
3. Rename .TLG and .ND Files: Renaming the .TLG (Transaction Log) and .ND (Network Data) files associated with the company file can sometimes resolve issues with file corruption or network connectivity. QuickBooks will automatically recreate these files when you open the company file again.
4. Copy the Company File to a Different Location: Create a copy of the company file and save it to a different location, such as your desktop. Then, try opening the copied file to see if the issue persists. If the file opens successfully, it indicates that the original file may be damaged or corrupted.
5. Check for QuickBooks Updates: Ensure that QuickBooks Desktop is up to date with the latest releases and updates. Intuit regularly releases patches and updates to address software bugs and compatibility issues.
6. Verify File Name and Extension: Check the file name and extension to ensure that it is correct and follows QuickBooks’ naming conventions. Avoid using special characters or symbols in the file name, as they may cause compatibility issues.
7. Reboot Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple reboot of your computer can resolve temporary software glitches or conflicts that may be preventing QuickBooks from opening the company file.
8. Try Opening the File in Single-User Mode: If you’re unable to open the company file in multi-user mode, try opening it in single-user mode instead. This can help isolate any issues related to network connectivity or user permissions.
9. Restore a Backup of the Company File: If you have a recent backup of the company file, consider restoring it to see if the issue persists. This can help rule out any data corruption or damage to the original file.
10. Consult QuickBooks Support: If none of the above solutions resolve the issue, it may be necessary to contact QuickBooks support for further assistance. They can provide personalized troubleshooting steps and guidance based on your specific situation.
By following these troubleshooting solutions, you should be able to resolve the QuickBooks Desktop unable to open the company file issue and get back to managing your finances smoothly. If you continue to experience problems, don’t hesitate to seek help from QuickBooks support or consult with a professional IT expert.

Delay balancing error while using HDL coder
Hello
I am using Matlab 2023b version. While generating the HDL code I am facing the issue with delay balancing.I received the following error:
" Delay balancing unsuccessful because an extra 10 cycles of latency introduced by optimizations in the feedback loop cannot be offset using design delays for the loop latency budget. If you are modeling at data rate (high-level description of algorithm without hardware implementation details), refer to the clock-rate pipelining report for more details. If you are modeling at clock rate, consider increasing the latency budget by adding more design delays in the feedback loop. Refer to the delay balancing report for more details."
I inserted some delay blocks in series with the error block, but still the error remains same.I didn’t faced this issues when I was generating using 2021 version.Do I need to change anything in the setting?. Is there anything I should do with the delay blocks.Hello

How to read data from input boxes in app design using MATLAB
I have created an app, such that the response will be dynamically changing w.r.t input given. For example, the design view will have numeric edit field as No. of rooms and start button. If user give some value in No. of rooms, those many tabs will be generated with edit fields: Room no., No. of baskets in each room, percentage of fruits in each basket, No. of mangoes in each basket and also able to generate input boxes based on inputs given. There are few issues: Issue_1: Even though i’m not entering any value in room number and percentage of fruits in each basket, the app is able to generate next steps, that should not happen, instead the app should proceed for next steps after entering some value in room no and percentage of fruits in each basket. Issue_2: If I decrease the numeric value in No. of mangoes in each basket, the ‘import excel’ button are not able to change(By mistakenly if i have given 3,7,4 and press enter again if i have to give 2,3,2 the ‘import excel’ button won’t change).Issue_3: Need to plot the graph in such a format like(Room No.’x’_ basket’y’_’z’%of fruits in ‘y’ basket_Mango_’n’) and so on, which means for each ‘excel read’ button the graph should be displayed in an order on the tab. Has anyone had a problem recently (within last 2-3 months) where the Tenant Storage figure top right corner of SharePoint Admin active sites page is not updating?
I recently deleted 1.7TB of data from a site that had been removed from retention policies, 1st and 2nd stage bins but the 1.7TB never appeared as available, and I cannot see that it has been used up?

What should I do if QuickBooks Desktop Won’t Open My Company File?
Troubleshooting Solutions: QuickBooks Desktop Won’t Open My Company File
QuickBooks Desktop won’t open my company file can be frustrating, but several troubleshooting steps can help resolve this issue. Follow these solutions to diagnose and fix the problem:
Verify File Location and Permissions: Start by ensuring that the company file is stored in a location that QuickBooks can access. Check if the file is located on your local hard drive or a network drive. If it’s on a network drive, ensure that the network connection is stable. Also, verify that you have the necessary permissions to access and modify the file.
Restart QuickBooks and Your Computer: Sometimes, QuickBooks or your computer may encounter temporary glitches that prevent the program from functioning properly. Close QuickBooks and restart your computer to refresh system processes. Then, try opening QuickBooks again and see if the issue persists.
Run QuickBooks File Doctor: QuickBooks File Doctor is a built-in tool designed to diagnose and repair common company file issues. Launch the tool and follow the prompts to scan your company file for errors. If any issues are detected, allow File Doctor to repair them automatically. After the repair process is complete, try opening your company file again.
Update QuickBooks to the Latest Release: Outdated versions of QuickBooks may contain bugs or compatibility issues that can prevent company files from opening properly. Check for updates by selecting “Help” > “Update QuickBooks” from the menu bar. Download and install any available updates, then attempt to open your company file again.
Check for File Corruption: If QuickBooks still won’t open your company file, it’s possible that the file itself is corrupted. QuickBooks provides a built-in feature called “Verify Data” to check for file integrity issues. Go to “File” > “Utilities” > “Verify Data” and follow the on-screen instructions. If errors are found, QuickBooks will prompt you to rebuild the file. Proceed with the rebuild process and then try opening your company file again.
Restore a Backup: If all else fails and your company file remains inaccessible, consider restoring a recent backup of the file. Hopefully, you’ve been regularly backing up your data to prevent data loss. Locate a recent backup file (.QBB) and restore it using the “File” > “Open or Restore Company” option in QuickBooks. Once the backup is restored, you should be able to access your company data again.
Check for System Requirements: Ensure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for running QuickBooks Desktop. Inadequate hardware or outdated operating systems may cause compatibility issues that prevent company files from opening. Refer to the QuickBooks system requirements documentation and upgrade your hardware or software if necessary.
Disable Third-Party Antivirus/Firewall: Sometimes, third-party antivirus or firewall software can interfere with QuickBooks’ ability to access company files. Temporarily disable any third-party security software installed on your computer and attempt to open your company file again. If QuickBooks opens successfully, add an exception for QuickBooks in your antivirus/firewall settings to prevent future conflicts.
By following these troubleshooting solutions, you should be able to resolve the issue of QuickBooks Desktop won’t open my company file. If the problem persists after trying these steps, consider contacting QuickBooks support for further assistance.

Defender GitHub documentation now in private repos
Forced to pick a category, so it’s in Endpoint since that’s one of the biggest areas affected:
I’ve noticed that all Defender documentation within Microsoft-Docs public repositories has now been stripped and moved to “defender-docs-pr” – a private repository on GitHub.
Anyone have any insight on the rationale behind this? Seems like a step backwards by hiding it all away.
More recent commit history showing all the removal of content from public docs repo – https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/microsoft-365-docs/commit/dd143db5a2f8adf2d1bd483e33206b9c114d46dahttps://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/microsoft-365-docs/commits/public/microsoft-365/security
New private docs repo (this will 404 for most people) – https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/defender-docs-pr
Very disappointing change, as this will have walled away what was previously seen as a very collaborative platform for directly suggesting updates / fixes to documentation. I realise this may be in line with moving of feedback channels away from GitHub, but to now also lose visibility, rationale, history of the updates themselves from public view is a huge boon.

Edge Restore_on_Startup & Startup_URLs issues using Preferences File
Hi all,
if i using PowerShell to setting Restore_on_Startup & Startup_URLs in Preferences File, after Start, Edge clears all my values for both Parameters.
I have not any GPOs für Edge Settings and I don’t want to use GPO either.
I tested with Chrome and Chrome has not any Problem.
$Edge_Pref = “$env:LOCALAPPDATAMicrosoftEdgeUser DataDefaultPreferences”
$Settings = Get-Content $Edge_Pref -Encoding UTF8 | ConvertFrom-Json
$S_Value = ‘
{
“restore_on_startup”: 4,
“startup_urls”: [ “https://google.com” ]
}’
$Settings | Add-Member -name “session” -Value (convertfrom-json $S_Value) -MemberType NoteProperty -Force
$Settings | ConvertTo-Json -compress -Depth 99 | Out-File $Edge_Pref -Encoding UTF8
If i set Startup_URLs manually on edge://settings/startHomeNTP , i have this Values in Preferences File:
session: @{restore_on_startup=4; restore_on_startup_edge_lightweight=67E0BEBA86B40142BE31CBCB871E051C68EB22CB3232C59389A3EC1F1C;
restore_on_startup_edge_lightweight_verify=d3a08b42343f2a92382325073f267744; startup_urls=System.Object[];
startup_urls_edge_lightweight=25DABC9F5D654437A12DF36989ED7ABFB5609218A0C67474F963CB3E079D582F365140B8D05A3E1C8C11704EACAFA1FB04CA34;
startup_urls_edge_lightweight_verify=28ed710ee1ad19225db5d5b124cf916a}
What are restore_on_startup_edge_lightweight and startup_urls_edge_lightweight Parameters (Chrome has not)?
I tested with this Microsoft Edge for Business Versions:
Version 124.0.2478.67 (64-Bit)
Version 126.0.2552.0 canary (64-Bit)
Version 125.0.2535.6 dev (64-Bit)
Windows Versions:
Windows 10
Windows 11
Windows Server 2019
Thanks
