“Can Microsoft Ever Perfect the Start Menu?”
MS’s history with Start menus has been quite disappointing.
Initially, they had basic menus with just a few icons that could be moved around a bit. It’s funny to see that with W11, they’ve essentially come full circle with a similar layout.
As time passed, the menus evolved, leading to the well-liked W7 menu. However, things took a nosedive with W8, which didn’t even have a proper start menu, opting instead for a full-screen version.
With the introduction of the W10 menu, there were some initial rough edges that got smoothed out over time with features like nested folders and improved visual themes. The W10 Start Menu is now quite versatile and functional, with options to resize and customize it.
Unfortunately, the latest iteration has taken a severe step back, reverting to a menu filled with ungrouped icons and lacking nesting capabilities. Functional changes matter more to me than cosmetic ones.
A significant annoyance is the bottom section dedicated to recommended apps, which, even when turned off, persistently teases that you can turn them on. This kind of wasted space is frustrating.
The insistence on including a search bar in the menu seems redundant, especially when there’s already one on the taskbar. Furthermore, the inability to resize or move the menu is a significant drawback, making it one of the least customizable menus possible.
The current W11 menu feels like a regression to the days of W3.1, but with even more wasted space. While the debate over whether the W7 or W10 menu is superior is subjective, there’s no denying that Microsoft missed the mark with the new W11 menu if they believe it’s an improvement.

Common Questions about SSD Issues
My recently purchased Dell XPS8960, only 2 months old, is experiencing boot-up issues. Currently, I can only access it through the command prompt window after the ‘post’ stage. The XPS8960 has a single 2TB PCIe M.2 SSD, recognized as the ‘X’ drive. Upon running the DIR command, folders like Program Files, Program Files (X86), Sources, Users, and Windows are listed. Additionally, there is a file named ‘OfflineRecEnvTrace/etl,’ with the System32 subfolder under Windows containing windows-related files. The Users folder includes a ‘Public’ subfolder with empty directories for documents and photos under the Sources folder.
Before the problem arose, there was a significant amount of personal data stored in a ‘My Documents’ folder on the drive. While some data is backed up on a portable hard drive, the rest is not. I am eager to recover this data, as I suspect its disappearance is linked to the boot-up issue.
Based on my understanding, the X: drive is the SSD responsible for booting up the computer. It seems operational to some extent since I can access the BIOS, troubleshooting, and command prompt. The available free space indicates that a substantial partition of the 2TB drive might not be visible, where my personal data likely remains.
I’ve come across suggestions to remove the drive and attempt data recovery on another PC before reinstalling Windows 11. However, this solution would be inconvenient for me. Is there any way I can explore the current state of the machine to verify if my data is recoverable without resorting to removing the drive?

The OneDrive for Business Problem Created When Deleting User Accounts
On the surface, the work to delete OneDrive for Business accounts seems straightforward because Microsoft provides a 30-day deletion period to review contents and uses an automatic delegation process to assign control over the account to the deleted user’s manager. But given the number of applications that store data in OneDrive for Business, can anyone perform an end-to-end review of what’s in the account in a reasonable time?

Unable to Remove-SPOUser from personal sharepoints properly
Hello,
I had to add a global administrator account literally on every single personal sharepoint, as Site Collection Administrators, to delete a user from each personal sharepoint, with a certain email but associated with a old sharepoint ID (the user was re-added to our Office 365 and he had issues when other were sharing links from personal sharepoint to him, access denied even with the right email, because he have now other sharepoint ID).
Now I want to remove that global administrator account from every personal sharepoint (using: Remove-SPOUser) , using a global administrator account A to remove the global administrator account B that I’ve added everywhere (Account B was added with Account A login with: Set-SPOUser)(otherwise will get: Remove-SPOUser : A user may not remove his or her own account from a site collection.), but cannot do that because, seems like I need to use an account that is already a Site Collection Administrator, to perform this action, so I am unable to leave just the Primary Site Collection Administrator (the own user).
Over web sharepoint admin center, I can remove and add everyone using Account A, even remove Account A from Site Collection Administrators, it simply doesn’t work in the same way when connected over Connect-SPOService.
Please advise how can I remove that Account B, and leave only the Primary Site Collection Administrator as Site Collection Administrator?

Data validation on a column based on another cell content on a different column and different row
I am trying to creat a data validation on a column where it doesnt allow duplicate entries based of content from another column correspondence to the original entry in the first column.
Eg:
column A – 1,2,3,4
Corresponded column B – occupied, Not occupied, Not occupied, Not occupied
If someone enters number 1 in column A again, it should trigger error message because the corresponding value in column B says “occupied “

What is FOCUS?

Getting started with FOCUS
FOCUS 1.0 covers the resources you deployed, the internal SKUs each resource used, the type of charge, how much you used or purchased, how it was priced, and the specific:
Billing details related to invoicing, like the provider you used, who generated the invoice (invoice issuer), and the billing period for the invoice.
Resource details about what you deployed with the provider, like the service, resource type, region, and tags.
SKU details about the product you used or purchased, like the publisher and SKU identifiers.
Charge details that describe and categorize the charge, like the type, description, frequency, and amount used or purchased.
Discount details that summarize the pricing model, like the pricing category and commitment discount details.
Pricing + costs that include the raw details about how each charge is priced, like the pricing quantity, unit price, and cost.

KQL extend command does not seems to work in workbook
Hi all,
I have an issue with the extend command in a custom workboook.
The following KQL query parses Palo Alto Logs and to extract specific field (like PanOSSourceUserName, etc) and creating new column (same name).

Looking for a way to show upcoming payments on my das
Hi,
I’m working on a dashboard to keep track of my finances. I have several monthly reoccurring payments and I’m simply trying to create a way to get a quick view of upcoming payments for the month based on today’s date. IE: Electric bill is due every 22nd and I want to be able to see that it’s coming up if the current date is the 19th. Given that several of the payments happen regularly, I want to be able to see what’s coming up when I open my workbook, based on the current day. Can anyone shine some light?

Hi Everyone,
Context: creating an internal job board where leadership submits a form and it flows to a list. One of the columns is an “Action” column where employees can click a JSon button to “Apply” which triggers a Power Automate flow (approvals).
My problem is that the flow picks up “Modified by” Details for the approval flow (i.e applicant applies, flows through to job poster to review applicant) but this means I need to give the applicants edit access, which is not ideal as they can then edit the entire row item (job posted).
How do I ensure they can only click “apply” and not have edit access to any other column.
I have used a view to narrow the fields down, also removed the commandbarpromps using JSon formatting. My list is embedded on the main page (could not use the list webpart as the JSon button can’t be clicked then).
I’ve seen some solutions using SPFx but have no clue how to fo that nor does my company allow such.
Open to alternate solutions as long as the objective is achieved (people can apply)

Access denied on SharePoint for external guest users

Please i need your help on this issue.
We invited a guest in our tenant and provided access on a SharePoint folder in a document library.
The user was added to a SharePoint group on a document library and we shared a specific folder with that user by sending a SharePoint invitation.
When the user clicks on the SharePoint invitation, they can log in successfully, but the user gets an access denied message.
Please note that we provided external access to multiple people from that specific client in the same manner. The rest can successfully access the specific folder, but one of the user gets an access denied message.
As troubleshooting steps we did the following:
– removed the user from user profile service on the SharePoint admin center
– removed the user from the site collection
– deleted and re-created the user in Azure AD
– invited the user again in the same manner we invited the others
– and we also had a Teams call with the client and assisted the user via share screen, making sure the user is following the correct steps for logging in
After all these troubleshooting steps, the user keeps getting an “access denied” message while the others have access.

How can I make my Copilot for Word be less imaginative?
I have a dvi.doc file containing table with students’ entrance exams’ results (names + scored points). I ask Copilot for Word a prompt “Analyze /dvi.doc”. And then copilot creates a report where along with actual data from my file it pretends to use imaginary source files I never heard of (dvi.xls with qualification exams’ results of the same persons, exam.doc with scores split by subjects etc). Altogether it makes a complete mess. What shall I do to just have my original doc file analyzed in a reliable way?

Messsy contacts in Outlook 365 for Desktop
Hi,
I have Outlook 365 desktop version running under Windows 11. I rarely use Outlook online. In my accounts, I have 3 IMAP/POP3 accounts saved in a single PST file and 2 exchange accounts. The problem I have is that I have a messy contacts in 3 different contact lists that were generated automatically by Outlook.
When I try to send an email to email address removed for privacy reasons I cannot find the name in the search, autcomplete, etc. but I can find it in the exchange contacts for exchange accounts when I never added it. My contacts are messy and useless now.
How can unify my contact list and fix this issue? I have looked at this: method

“Malicious credential theft tool execution detected”
We need to show some clients the missing detections that they don´t have because Defender is not active!… so if we have a list of detections it is easier to understand the surface of protection of the EDR.

Regarding Tableau integration and key result target updates

Does anyody have a solution share for the following two problems:
1. When connecting to Tableau the units of the metric seem to show billion times larger. Why so?
2. Can the OKR import Excel be used to efficiently update only metric targets that already exist in Goals and have Tableau integrations set up.

Currently, scan isn’t supported if your Tableau server doesn’t allow access from public network.
Currently, scan isn’t supported if your Tableau server doesn’t allow access from public network. are there any work around to overcome this to access the tableau that is not allowing public network to access from purview?
