Global Community Moment: Global Power Platform Bootcamp 2024
Countless tech communities exist around the world, engaging in information dissemination and discussions about products and services, as well as collaborating on open-source projects. Beyond products and services, there are numerous communities organized around specific industries, students, and women, among others. Sometimes, communities may collaborate on joint activities, and many individuals are active members of multiple communities.
Moreover, tech communities from various locations globally have created iconic events under common themes, which deepen the learning of community members worldwide as a global community. Some recent events that the tech communities hosted were the Global Power Platform Bootcamp, the Global AI Bootcamp, and Global Azure 2024. These events attracted many people who wanted to learn new things with other community members.
This blog post focuses on the Global Power Platform Bootcamp, providing an overview of the event and featuring insights from a global organizer of the 2024 Global Power Platform Bootcamp, who played a key role in shaping this community initiative.

Jeevarajan Kumar is a Business Applications MVP and one of the global organizers of the Global Power Platform Bootcamp. He initially began his journey as a local event organizer in Singapore, working diligently to ensure the success of his community engagement activities. Eventually, he joined the global organizing committee and, alongside fellow MVPs Kunal Tripathy, Dharanidharan Balasubramaniam, Manonmani VS, and Vivek Patel, led the organization of the Global Power Platform Bootcamp. Jeevarajan reflects how his role as lead organizer evolved significantly. “This year, my focus shifted to marketing and collaborating with the global team to ensure our event’s success. Additionally, I worked closely with the local event organizers, offering support whenever needed,” says Jeevarajan.
The fifth iteration of the Global Power Platform Bootcamp turned into an extraordinary global initiative, as Jeevarajan noted, “This event stands as our largest endeavor to date.” Based on a worldwide enthusiasm for learning about the Power Platform, the initiative was held in 57 countries and 108 locations worldwide by 162 organizers. It featured local speakers who shared their knowledge with over 9,000 participants. Charles Lamanna, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President of Business Apps & Platforms, delivered a keynote address discussing Power Platform and community engagement.
This year’s Global Power Platform Bootcamp saw an increase in host locations, making it an unprecedentedly large-scale event. However, the fundamental concept remained the same: participants worldwide continued to learn about the Power Platform and enjoyed interactions with the community and Microsoft employees. Jeevarajan expressed the joy of being a global organizer, saying, “Global Power Platform Bootcamp is massive! It’s a unique feeling to see the incredible pictures and posts from the global community during those two days.”

A notable change from last year’s event was the shift in topics due to recent advancements in AI technology. In the keynote video, Corporate Vice President Charles spoke about the synergy between the Power Platform and generative AI and the importance of community feedback. Additionally, sessions increasingly featured topics related to Microsoft AI technologies, such as Azure OpenAI Service, Copilot, and Microsoft Fabric.
Witnessing the progression of technology, the Global Power Platform Bootcamp celebrated its fifth anniversary. Jeevarajan’s motivation to continue contributing to this annual global community initiative was bolstered by collaboration with his fellow MVPs and other global organizers (four MVPs as we mentioned earlier, and three MVPs Ashraf Ghonaim, Goloknath Mishra, and Natraj Yegnaraman, and community leaders Dhina Gajavarathan, Sam Luo, Saurabh Pimpalgaonkar, Anchika Kumari, Chelsea Philip, and Kevin N., and Kent Weare from Microsoft). “Being part of this successful team and contributing to making this magic happen is an amazing experience,” says Jeevarajan.
MVP organizers from MVP Global Summit
We also interviewed Kunal Tripathy, a member of the global organizing team and a Business Applications MVP, about his participation. He reflected on this year’s event and shared how it has evolved since last year. “The 2024 Bootcamp was remarkable, marking our first-time hosting over 100 locations worldwide. It was particularly thrilling to see extensive participation in Spain, with Ana María Bisbé York playing a pivotal role as a key organizer,” says Kunal.
Kunal joined forces with Microsoft’s Kent Weare at a Power Platform Conference in October 2019 and started planning the Global Power Platform Bootcamp. Dhina Gajavarathan and Vivek Patel came on board later, and they ran the first event in February 2020. He has been leading this global event since then and says this about its importance. Kunal says, “The event started with the idea of building local communities at Global scale. The drive behind GPPB has always been to foster local communities on a global scale, creating a unified celebration of the Power Platform, akin to a worldwide festival.”
Inspired by the positive outcome of their fifth event, the global organizing team is already preparing for next year. While it’s uncertain how the Power Platform will evolve by then, there’s no doubt that it will continue to be a valuable place for the community to learn about the latest developments in Power Platform.

Exchange Server Roadmap Update
Today, we are providing an update on our product roadmap for Microsoft Exchange Server, and our next milestones in the Exchange Server journey to support the specific needs of our on-premises customers, hosted services providers, and other partners. Here’s what’s ahead:
We will release one final Cumulative Update (CU) for Exchange Server 2019—the 2024 H2 CU aka CU15—later this year.
We will release Exchange Server Subscription Edition (Exchange Server SE) early in the third quarter of calendar year 2025.
We will release the first CU for Exchange Server SE—CU1—in late 2025.
Exchange Server 2019 CU15
CU15 will introduce new features and changes to support the RTM release of Exchange Server SE.
New Features in CU15
Adding support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3. TLS 1.3 eliminates obsolete cryptographic algorithms, improves security over older versions, and aims to encrypt as much of the handshake as possible.
Reintroducing certificate management in the Exchange admin center (EAC). Admins can create a request for a new certificate, complete the request after receiving the certificate from their provider, export certificates as PFX files, and import certificates from PFX files.
Changes to support Exchange Server Subscription Edition
Removal of support for co-existence with Exchange 2013. Since Exchange 2013 reached end of life last year, and since Exchange Server SE does not support coexistence with any unsupported versions, in preparation for what comes next, we are removing support for Exchange Server 2013. Customers should remove Exchange 2013 servers before installing Exchange 2019 CU15 or Exchange Server SE RTM or later. If Exchange 2013 is detected in the environment, Setup in CU15 and Exchange Server SE will stop and display an error message to this effect.
Support for new product keys. New product keys will need to be obtained for other server roles, except for Hybrid servers which will continue to receive a free license and product key via the Hybrid Configuration Wizard. CU15 adds support for these new keys, which will be available when Exchange Server SE is available.
Support for Windows Server 2025. Today, Exchange 2019 can be installed on Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022. CU15 will introduce support for Windows Server 2025 (when the OS reaches GA later this year).
Additional changes expected in CU15 include:
Updating the Visual C++ redistributable to the version that ships with Visual Studio 2022
Removal of support for UCMA 6.0 and the instant messaging feature in Outlook on the web
The Windows MSMQ component will no longer be installed by Setup
Improvements in Exchange Server AMSI integration
Adding PDF files to Exchange Server CBC encryption support.
Exchange Server Subscription Edition
Exchange Server SE, the next release of Microsoft Exchange Server, will be available for download from the Microsoft 365 admin center (previously the Microsoft Volume License Service Center) in the early part of Q3 of 2025. The licensing model used by Exchange Server SE is the same as SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, which requires subscription licenses or licenses with active Software Assurance for server and user licenses. We will continue to provide a free Hybrid server license and key, which will continue to be distributed using the Hybrid Configuration Wizard.
The hardware and operating system requirements for Exchange Server SE are the same as Exchange 2019 CU15, which adds support for Windows Server 2025.
The RTM release of Exchange Server SE will not require any changes to Active Directory when upgrading from Exchange Server 2019. There are no Active Directory schema changes beyond those in Exchange Server 2019, and we will continue to support the Windows Server 2012 R2 forest functional level.
Finally, Exchange Server SE will be supported under the modern lifecycle support policy.
Release Details
To allow for rapid adoption and deployment, the RTM release of Exchange Server SE will be code equivalent to (e.g., the same exact code as) Exchange Server 2019 CU15, except for the following changes:
The License agreement, an RTF file shown only in the GUI version of Setup, will be updated.
The name will change from Microsoft Exchange Server 2019 to Microsoft Exchange Server Subscription Edition.
The build and version number will be updated.
Please note that:
If any Security Updates (SUs) are released before CU15, those updates will be incorporated into CU15.
If any SUs are released after CU15, then the RTM release of Exchange Server SE will be code equivalent to Exchange 2019 CU15 plus the latest SU. If you are on CU15, which is where you should be, then you should also be already running the latest SU released after CU15, thereby maintaining code equivalence with the RTM release.
Upgrading to Exchange Server SE from Previous Versions
To help further accelerate in-place upgrades, in addition to being code equivalent, Exchange Server SE will support two types of upgrades: in-place upgrade and legacy upgrade.
In-place upgrade
The fastest and easiest way to get from Exchange Server 2019 to Exchange Server SE is to perform an in-place upgrade. The upgrade experience is identical to installing a CU. Once a server is running Exchange Server SE, it will be updated with our update cadence of two CUs per year (in H1 and H2).
Legacy upgrade
Exchange Server SE also supports legacy upgrades, which involve building out a new infrastructure and moving namespaces and mailboxes to that new infrastructure. Some of these processes are used in other scenarios, such as when replacing server hardware or when you want to use a newer version of Windows Server, and those processes continue to be supported in Exchange Server SE.
If your organization is running Exchange 2016 today and you want to continue to run Exchange on-premises, then you have at least one more legacy upgrade to do.
To ensure a timely move from Exchange 2016 to Exchange Server SE, we recommend doing a legacy upgrade now from Exchange 2016 to Exchange 2019 as soon as possible. Once you are running Exchange 2019, you can do a quick and easy in-place upgrade to Exchange Server SE.
Update Paths for Exchange 2019 CU15 and Exchange Server SE
As with all previous versions, Exchange Server SE can be used to create a new Exchange on-premises organization from scratch and/or can coexist in an Exchange organization that includes only supported versions (e.g., Exchange 2016 CU23 and/or Exchange 2019 CU14 or later). It cannot be introduced into an Exchange organization with unsupported versions.

Exchange Server SE CU1
Exchange Server SE will be serviced with the existing cadence of two CUs per year. In October 2025, we expect to release Exchange Server SE CU1. Exchange Server SE CU1 is expected to introduce the following changes:
Kerberos for server-to-server communication
Adding support for an Admin API and deprecating RPS
Removing Outlook Anywhere
Removal of support for co-existence with earlier versions
Kerberos for server-to-server communication
The default authentication protocol used for communication between Exchange servers will use Kerberos instead of NTLMv2. In CU1, Setup will enable Kerberos (specifically, auth = Negotiate:Kerberos) on all Exchange server virtual directories on the server being installed.
Admin API and RPS deprecation
The Admin API, a set of REST-based APIs to enable remote management of Exchange servers will be introduced. Remote PowerShell (RPS) will be supported in CU1 but deprecated in future CUs.
Removing Outlook Anywhere
Exchange Online and Microsoft 365 removed support for Outlook Anywhere (aka RPC over HTTP) several years ago and starting in CU1, Outlook Anywhere will be removed from Exchange Server SE. This change may affect any third-party Outlook add-ins that still use this protocol.
Removal of support for co-existence with all previous versions
At the time CU1 is released, Exchange Server SE will be the only supported version. As all previous versions will be unsupported at that time, Setup in CU1 will block coexistence with anything other than Exchange Server SE RTM or later.

Move to Exchange Server 2019 CU14 today:
If you want to run Exchange Server, move to Exchange Server 2019 CU14 on Windows Server 2022 today.
If you prefer to wait for Windows Server 2025, move to Exchange Server 2019 CU15 as soon as the new operating system is available.
If you are running Exchange Server 2019, keep your Exchange servers updated by always running a supported CU and the latest SU and the latest updates for the Windows operating system, and regularly run the Exchange Health Checker.
Because Windows Server 2019 reaches end of life in January 2029, new deployments of Exchange Server 2019 CU15 and Exchange Server SE RTM are recommended to be installed on Windows Server 2022, or when available, Windows Server 2025.

A: Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2025 (when released) are supported operating systems for Exchange Server 2019 CU15 and Exchange Server SE, and as far as Exchange is concerned, there is no difference in Windows Server feature or component usage. The primary difference from an Exchange server perspective is the lifecycle, where Windows Server 2025 reaches end of life a few years after Windows Server 2022.

Why does my spreadsheet open “scrambled”?

I’m back with more trouble… 😉
I’m using Microsoft 365 on Windows 10. I’ve created an Excel spreadsheet and it’s got some weird things going on.
I’ve set all four margins at .5.
“Scale to Fit” is set to “Automatic” for both Width and Height and 100% for “Scale”.
Part One:
When I open it in Excel, the top margin is displaying larger than .5, and row numbers 4 through 9 are “missing” (but the rows are still there because everything in those rows is present on the screen).
After I took the above screenshot and went back to the spreadsheet, the top margin was still larger than .5 but the row numbers 4 through 9 are appearing now.
I then went to File > Print and the margin is correct even though it displayed incorrectly in the above image, prior to selecting Print.
I then went back to the spreadsheet by clicking the back arrow in the Print dialogue and the margin is now displaying correctly.
This happens haphazardly but more often than not.
Part Two:
Sometimes the layout of the form itself is messed up, rows missing, lines shifted, cells appearing oddly but every time I try to get a screenshot, the form corrects itself as soon as I click on the “Snip & Sketch” icon in my taskbar (so I took a picture with my phone). Also showing are the messed up row numbers (38 and 39 showing twice).
When I scroll down and then back up on the spreadsheet that weirdness has corrected itself but row numbers are missing now (but the rows are technically still there because everything in the rows is still appearing on the screen)
Part Three:
I can enter 6 lines of text in this box and it displays fine…
But when I go to print it, it cuts off the 6th row of text.

Other than Part Three where the 6th row of text is cut off when printing, everything else prints fine even though it displays oddly at times. It happens not just on my computer but on others’ computers as well.
Any idea what I can do to fix these issues?

VBA – Copying and pasting data from one document to another

Running Excel 365. A little bit of context:
I have an original Excel file named CBD Original. In this file, there is a range (B10:B25) with product references. For each reference that is “NE” and/or “N” my code opens the other excel file that is located in the same folder as the current Excel file and that is named “PBD Cliente”, pastes data from CBD Original file based on some ranges that simulate the two different tabs of the PBD file and finally saves a copy of it.
I have already played around with the code in order to create this functionality. All you have to do is to put both attached files in a folder, open the CBD Original file and then run the macro.
The problem is the following: PBD file has its sheets protected. Specifically, blue “columns” are locked and values cannot be entered in those cells. I already know that (note that blue “columns” in the CBD Original file are empty because I know I should not paste any values there) but I do not know how to rearrange the code in order to understand that. As per now, the code simply copies row by row entirely and tries to paste it on the other file, which results breaking the whole automation because certain cells cannot be pasted (even if they are already blank). Run-time error 1004 occurs.
The attached PBD file does not have its sheet protected so that you can see the functionality working correctly. Please protect its sheets and make sure only blue columns are the ones unable to receive data when trying to propose a solution.

Also, once every year that balance gets reset, and we place a full blank line between their current and previous lines to mark it.
Can I get assistance with a VLookUp formula that will search for their ID# within that document, then return the latest (lowest) value in column D for that person? Their information gains a row every month, and some have been here longer than others, so it would likely have to 1. Find their ID# 2. Find next persons ID# below them (All ID’s are setup as ID####) 3. Limit search to the rows between those two names 4. Return lowest non-blank cell in Column D.

The session was kicked off by Sesha Mani who did an introduction to the importance of SharePoint, it’s role in the Microsoft 365 Digital Workplace, and of course covered the advanced content services in SharePoint Premium!
SharePoint Premium is a family of advanced content experiences and management capabilities to maximize the value of your content in the cloud and help get it ready for Copilot. It includes metered pay-as-you-go services, such as content processing, e-signature, OCR, and translation!
The New Agreements Solution
We then started focusing on the star of the session – the new Agreements solution which was covered by Vijay Sharma.
This new solution is designed to help you create, manage, and sign agreements faster and smarter. Agreements are the foundation of business transactions, and they are high-value documents that are associated with monetary value, legally binding, and kept as records. However, the current process of creating and finalizing agreements is often challenging, time-consuming, error-prone, and inconsistent. Not to mention the sheer number of agreements created per year in last organizations! I am sure some of you probably expected this number – but I was very surprised!
The agreements solution aims to solve these challenges by providing an end-to-end solution for agreements infused with AI. The solution consists of five steps:
Define templates – Build once, use forever. You can create templates in Word, insert custom fields and snippets from a library, configure reviewers and approvers, and publish templates for reuse.
Generate agreements with self-service creation. You can create agreements from your templates, edit and send them for review and approval. You can also track the status and history of each agreement.
Review and negotiate which results in faster closing. You can use AI-driven deviation analysis to compare agreements with templates and flag any changes or risks. You can also collaborate with internal and external parties, suggest, and accept changes, and resolve issues.
Sign and store with native e-signature. You can send e-signature requests from Word or Teams, sign agreements with Microsoft eSignature or third-party providers, and store signed agreements in SharePoint.
Report and analyze which enables you to unlock insights. You can access reports and dashboards to monitor the performance and compliance of your agreements and use AI to extract metadata and insights from your agreements.
In the session we have seen amazing demos of each one of those pillars – and how all of them work in action! As this feature is still in preview, the demos were video based, and not actual demos – but that is usually to be expected in big live events like this, especially for a preview feature!
The Solution @ Microsoft Digital
The last part of the session was focused on how Microsoft has been using this solution internally for quite a while now – and some of the early success they had! The last part was covered by Mohit Chand.
As you can expect, Microsoft has a lot of legal documents, whether it’s contracts with Vendors, companies, or NDAs with MVPs! Microsoft has over 1.5M contracts in its repository a growth of 10% Year over Year and over 10,000 clauses across templates!
Microsoft Digital has started using the new Agreements solution and has digitized over 15% of their contracts with this solution! Microsoft Digital was able to go from a 3 to 5-month time to digitize a type of contract to only 14 days with the new Agreements solution, which is an amazing increase in productivity! During the presentation, a type of contract has an average of 3-6 templates, which is one of the reasons it was so long to digitize them before, but with the new templating functionality it’s now a lot faster!

QuickBooks requires a stable internet connection to send invoices successfully. 1. Clipchamp coming to education customers
We are excited to announce that Clipchamp, a video editing tool that empowers educators and students to create engaging videos, is now available for Microsoft 365 Education with our A3 and A5 licenses. Starting on June 23rd , 2024, our education customers can access Clipchamp and start making amazing videos with ease.
Clipchamp is designed to make video creation easy for everyone, regardless of skill or experience level. You can combine video clips, images, and audio files with text and effects to create videos worthy of sharing. Whether it’s recording experiments, presenting research, or producing multimedia projects, Clipchamp enhances student engagement and learning outcomes.
Clipchamp also helps students develop future-ready skills, such as communication, creativity, and collaboration. With its user-friendly interface, Clipchamp makes video editing accessible to learners of all levels, empowering them to explore and express their ideas effectively.
Clipchamp is seamlessly integrated with Microsoft 365, so you can store your videos in OneDrive and SharePoint and watch or share them with Microsoft Stream. You can also use centralized IT controls, single sign-on, and security features within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

2. AI and Teams EDU for Educators
Using generative AI to create rubrics in Assignments
Rubrics are a useful tool to communicate the expectations for the assignments to the students, and to provide an easy and effective way for the educator to grade and give specific feedback to the students. However, creating detailed rubrics can take a lot of time. With generative AI integrated into Assignments, you just need to enter what you want the rubric to assess, and Assignments will suggest criteria for you and complete the rubric for you.
You have the control as the educator, and you can add more levels or criteria and let AI fill out a first draft for you.

Using generative AI to create instructions in Assignments
For Assignments Instructions, we are examining the information and giving multiple suggestions for how to enrich the content, such as adding more details, adding learning objectives, emphasizing key concept and even making your assignments more interesting. The educator always has the choice and can generate different options, and after the content is created, can always make further edits and updates to the content.

Using generative AI to create modules in Classwork
Classwork is a new app in Teams that helps you manage your curriculum and lets educators create and organize class resources such as Assignments, Files, Links, Channels, Class Notebook pages, and more. With AI enabled Classwork module generation, educators can get assistance creating a course outline and drafting modules and descriptions based on the subject, student grade level, and class learning objectives. The educator is always in the driver’s seat and can choose to edit, delete, or regenerate modules before adding them to Classwork.

Reading Progress – AI passage generation
As announced recently, we are excited to share new capabilities for AI passage generation Educators can now generate a passage directly in Reading Progress, allowing them to leverage insights to personalize it based on the needs of their class and individual students. Passage generation offers the option to select a topic, age, length, and language. Further, educators can easily adjust the complexity of the passage once it has been generated.

Reading Progress – AI Comprehension Question generation
Comprehension is a critical pillar for reading fluency but often requires a considerable amount of time from educators to create questions. To better support educators, we have built a new feature to generate comprehension questions based on a specific reading passage. Educators can choose the number of questions and then review them, make any necessary edits, and publish them to students.

Speaker Progress now in private preview
Speaker Progress joins our suite of Learning Accelerator tools to help students develop a key future ready skill – presenting and public speaking! Students consistently rank public speaking as a top cause of anxiety and educators tell us that creating opportunities for presenting in class is time consuming.
With Speaker Progress, educators can easily create assignments for students to practice presenting and get real-time tailored coaching on their pace, pitch, filler words, pronunciation, repetitive language, use of sensitive phrases, eye contact, and body language. The educator can customize which tips are shown to students and students can get immediate feedback and see rehearsal report with their top strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Educators can review student speeches and see insights on how their students are progressing over time in key speech skills. 4. Get ready for summer with Reading Coach
What are your plans for keeping students reading through the summer? How about using Reading Coach? Today, we are announcing “Unlock characters and settings” that empowers learners to get a new character or story setting for every 20-minutes of reading. Learners can even trade characters / settings from a whole new collection.

We’ve enriched our activities collection with intriguing tales of wildlife and nature’s wisdom: from dolphin friendships to elephant empathy, and penguin teamwork, uncovering the fascinating behaviors of various animals!
Each story is paired with a corresponding coloring page, enriching the learning journey, promoting tranquility, and encouraging learners to apply these insights to their daily lives.

7. Microsoft Forms Updates
Form/quiz data sync to Excel
Whether you’re managing a quiz for a specific subject or a form for various school activities, you can now easily access all your responses in Excel for the web. New responses will sync automatically in real-time, allowing you to keep working on your existing spreadsheet without missing a beat, while also leveraging Excel’s robust functions to analyze and evaluate your class’s performance.

Embed Forms and callouts into Stream videos
Now, you have the capability to insert a form or quiz directly into a Stream video. As the video plays to a specific moment, the form or quiz will appear to the students. Once they’ve completed the form or quiz, they can continue watching the video. This feature provides teachers with a new way to enhance engagement and assess comprehension in real-time.

Pre-fill link
Teachers can now pre-fill some default answers to a form. Such as in a course enrollment registration for the new semester, instead of requiring students to manually enter professor’s name or course ID, teachers can use the pre-fill link feature in Microsoft Forms. This not only saves students time in filling out the form but also enhances data accuracy. (Note: Pre-fill link will start to roll out for EDU starting this month. Initially, it will be only available for forms, with quiz functionality will be enabled later.)
